2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTH REGION – SECOND ROUND

         #1 Kansas 70, #33 North Florida 66

    Kansas had four players score in double figures and survived a scare from a feisty North Florida team to defeat the Ospreys 70-66 in a SMCAA North 2nd round game.  The Jayhawks, who biggest lead in the game was nine, got 15 points from Sherron Collins to lead the way.  Marcus Morris (14 points, 8 rebounds), Cole Aldrich (12 points, 8 rebounds), and Xavier Henry (11 points, 5 rebounds) were also in double figures for KU.
    UNF got 16 points from Stan Januska to lead the way. Jerron Granberry added 11 points while Matt Sauey chipped in 10 points.  The Ospreys faltered at the free throw line, however, making just 10 of 19 (53%) on the night.

        #17 Coastal Carolina 70, #16 Wisconsin-Milwaukee 47

    Coastal Carolina came up with a superb defensive effort and blew out Wisconsin-Milwaukee 70-47 in a 2nd round North contest.  The Chanticleers held the Panthers to 33% shooting overall and 19% from 3 point range.  Coastal also had 4 players in double figures led by Mario Edwards and Joseph Harris who had 14 points apiece.  Harris also had 11 rebounds in the win.  Chad Gray (11 points off the bench) and Kierre Greenwood (10 points) were also in double figures.
    Anthony Hill led the way for UWM with 11 points while James Eayrs added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.  The Panthers also committed 19 turnovers on the night.

        NORTH REGION 3RD ROUND: #17 Coastal Carolina vs. #1 Kansas

        #24 Indiana 81, #9 Cincinnati 72

    Indiana got out to a 11 point 1st half lead, led by 7 at the break, and went on to upset Cincinnati 81-72 in a North 2nd round surprise.  The Hoosiers had 4 players in double figures, led by Maurice Creek and his 16 points off the bench.  Verdell Jones III (14 points, 11 rebounds), Christian Watford (13 points, 12 rebounds), and Jordan Hulls (11 points, 3 three pointers) were also in double figures for the victors.
    The Bearcats got 13 points and 6 rebounds from Lance Stephenson to lead the way.  Yancy Gates added 12 points and 7 rebounds while Rashad Bishop had 10 points.  Free throws were a problem, however, as UC shot just 10 of 20 from the stripe on the night.

        #8 Seton Hall 70, #25 Eastern Michigan 68

    Herb Pope hit a jumper with 2 seconds left to lift Seton Hall to a 70-68 victory over upset-minded Eastern Michigan in a 2nd round North thriller.  The Pirates, which by led by 11 at halftime, could not hold the lead as two Eagle free throws gave them the lead with 3:49 left.  SHU fought back and the teams went back and forth with an EMU three pointer with 15 seconds left tying the game and setting the stage for Pope’s heroics.  Jeremy Hazell led the Pirates with 24 points, while Pope (10 points, 18 rebounds), Jordan Theodore (10 points, 4 assists), and Eugene Harvey (10 points) all scored in double figures.
    The Eagles were led by Brandon Bowdry and his 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Carlos Medlock added 15 points in the loss.
