2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – SOUTHEAST REGION – SECOND ROUND
#7 Siena 72, #39 Florida International 62
Siena got a great game from Alex Franklin and made an 8 point halftime lead stick as the Saints defeated Florida International 72-62 in a SMCAA Southeast 2nd round game. Franklin finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead Siena. Edwin Ubiles and Clarence Jackson each added 13 points in the victory.
The Golden Panthers were led by Phil Gary with his 14 points. Marvin Roberts added 13 points and 8 rebounds for FIU, who shot only 39% from the floor on the night.
#10 New Mexico State 79, #23 Boise State 77
New Mexico State was able to hold onto a 3 point halftime lead and go on to defeat Boise State 79-77 in a 2nd round Southeast game between Western Athletic Conference foes. The Aggies, who had a 42-39 halftime lead, got a stellar performance from Jahmar Young, who finished the night with 29 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field. Hamidu Rahman added 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jonathan Gibson chipped 14 points including four 3 pointers.
The Broncos, who got a close as two in the second half, were led by La’Shard Anderson and his 17 points. Daequon Montreal (11 points), Robert Arnold (10 points), and Paul Noonan (10 points) were also in double figures in the loss.
SOUTHEAST REGION 3RD ROUND: #10 New Mexico State vs. #7 Siena
#15 Princeton 68, #18 Niagara 56
Princeton established an 8 point halftime lead and was able to maintain through the second half as they defeated Niagara 68-56 in a Southeast 2nd round contest. Dan Mavraides led the way for the Tigers with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Douglas Davis added 14 points in the win. Princeton had a good night shooting at the free throw line, hitting 18-23 (78%) on the night.
The Purple Eagles got 18 points from Tyrone Lewis, who shot 7 of 14 from the field including four 3 pointers. Demetrius Williamson added 14 points in the loss. Niagara had a rough night shooting, making only 34% on the night.
#2 Temple 69, #31 California State-Northridge 66
Temple trailed by as many as 5 in the second half but rallied and avoided a major upset by defeating California State-Northridge 69-66 in a 2nd round Southeast thriller. The Owls trailed 31-28 at the half and were down 34-29 in the second half before coming back. Ryan Brooks led the way for the Owls with 20 points including three 3 pointers. Juan Fernandez added 13 points and Michael Eric had 10 for the victors.
The Matadors had 15 points apiece from Mark Hill and Willie Galick. Lenny Daniel (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Kenny Daniels (10 points, 4 assists) were also in double figures. Northridge had problems at the free throw line, making only 65% of their 37 attempts.
