New York Mets Blow It in Extra Innings
Flushing Baseball DailyApr 15, 2010
The Mets blew it.
After receiving a gift run on an error by Colorado catcher Chris Iannetta in the ninth inning to tie the game, they failed to score with a pair of runners in scoring position in the 10th.
Then just as Iannetta handed the Mets a chance to win, he took it away with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to give the Mets a 6-5 loss in Coors Field.

2020 MLB Re-Draft โฎ๏ธ
Notes
- Jose Reyes went 0-for-5 with a stolen base.
- Luis Castillo went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and the ninth inning game-tying RBI.
- David Wright hit a big 2-run homer going 1-for-5.
- Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks. He has an eight game hitting streak.
- Mike Jacobs actually had a good game. 1-for-3 (a double) with a pair of walks.
- Jason Bay went 1-for-5 with a run scored.
- Jon Niese needed to pitch better than this. His line: 5IP, 9H, 5ER, 1BB, 2K, 1HR
- Once again the Mets bullpen was good. Raul Valdes , Fernando Nieve , Pedro Feliciano and Ryota Igarashi combined for this line: 4IP, 2H, 0ER, 1BB, 4K.
- Jenrry Mejia had it rough in the 10th though. One batter, four pitches, one home run, one loss. His ERA: 4.50.
Thoughts
- I donโt like saves. You use your best pitchers when you need to use your best pitchers. That isnโt always in a save situation. Major League managers need to understand that. Francisco Rodriguez needed to be on the mound in the 10th inning. To lose a game in the bullpen and to have your best reliever sitting there is unforgivable.
- The Mets need someone with a bat coming off the bench. Using Alex Cora in a crucial situation with runners in scoring position is not going to work most of the time.
- Angel Pagan is hitting .250 and Gary Matthews Jr is batting .176. At this point, neither really deserves a starting role.
- I still havenโt given up on any of the pitchers from the Mets rotation, they still need to get into a groove. The only problem is, at some point somebody has to get the ball rolling. Hereโs looking at Johan.
- The Mets bullpen has been the most pleasant surprise of the season. Hopefully they keep it up.
- Mejia needs to be in the minors. Not because of the home run he gave up, but it doesnโt help.
Line of the Night
- The Mets are now 12-for-72 (.167) with runners in scoring position for the season.
Up Next
- The Mets will try to salvage something from this trip to Colorado by winning the final game of this series.
- Thur, April 15 RHP Mike Pelfrey (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. LHP Jorge De La Rosa (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
