2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – WEST REGION – FIRST ROUND

        #21 Rider 62, #44 Bryant 48

    Rider had three players score in double figures as the Broncs came up with a supreme 2nd half defensive performance to defeat Bryant 62-48 in a SMCAA West 1st round game.  Justin Robinson led the way for Rider with 16 points while Novar Gadson added 15 and Ryan Thompson chipped in 13.  The Broncs, who were tied with the pesky Bulldogs at 32 all at the half, held Bryant to only 16 points in the second frame on the way to the 16 point victory.
    Adam Parzych led the Bulldogs with 10 points, but Bryant only shot 39% for the game.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #21 Rider vs. #12 Michigan

        #42 Mississippi Valley State 69, #23 St. Joseph’s 58

    Mississippi Valley State outscored St. Joseph’s by 15 in the second half to turn a 4 point halftime deficit into a 11 point 69-58 win in a 1st round West surprise.  The Delta Devils used a 13-0 run over a five minute span to take control 60-49 with 4 minutes remaining.  Julius Chheks led NVSU with 13 points and Darian Donald added 10 for the victors.
    The Hawks were led by 17 points from Darrin Govens and 15 from Idris Hilliard, but let the game slip away after leading 30-26 at halftime.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #42 Mississippi Valley State vs. #10 Alabama

        #24 Texas Christian 78, #41 Florida A&M 57

        Ronnie Moss and Zvonko Buljan combined for 48 points and TCU shot 54% from the field in cruising to a 78-57 1st round West win over Florida A&M. Moss (28 points) and Buljan (19 points) shot a combined 18 of 26 from the field and also combined for half of the Horned Frogs 38 rebounds (Buljan 14, Moss 5).
        The Rattlers were led by Larry Jackson’s 15 points, but Amin Stevens was the only other FAMU player in double figures as he scored 10 off the bench.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #24 Texas Christian vs. #9 Missouri State

        #22 Campbell 68, #43 Wagner 52

        Campbell has three players in double figures as the Camels broke open a close game in the second half and defeated Wagner 68-52 in a West 1st round contest.  Leading by only 4 at the break, Kyle Vejraska (13 points), Lorne Merthie (11 points), and Jonathan Rodriguez (10 points, 8 rebounds) led the way for Campbell in the second stanza.
        The Seahawks were led by 15 points from Chris Martin, but could only shoot 39% from the field for the game.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #22 Campbell vs. #11 Virginia

        #27 Arkansas-Pine Bluff 69, #38 Savannah State 52

    Arkansas-Pine Bluff got 14 points from Lebaron Weathers en route to a 69-52 SMCAA West 1st round victory.  Terrance Calvin added 12 points in the victory for the Golden Lions.  UAPB also took care of business from the free throw line, hitting 18 of 22 (82%) on the night.
    The Tigers were led by 10 points apiece from Tracy Rankins and Patrick Hardy, but Savannah State could not overcome 38% shooting on the night as a team.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #27 Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. #6 Old Dominion

        #26 Mount St. Mary’s 64, #39 Albany 59

    Mount St. Mary’s made a 7 point halftime lead stick as they defeated Albany 64-59 in a hard fought 1st round West contest.  The Mountaineers were led by Kelly Beidler, who had 16 points, as well as Jeremy Goode (12 points) and Jean Cajou (10 points).
    Will Harris and Tim Ambrose each had 11 points to lead the Great Danes.  Ambrose also led Albany with 10 rebounds on the night.
    It turned out to be a rough night for both teams as each could just manage 36% shooting from the field.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #26 Mount St. Mary’s vs. #7 Memphis

        #25 DePaul 67, #40 Fordham 52

    Mac Koshwal had a dominating 25 points and 15 rebounds in leading DePaul to a 67-52 win in a West 1st round contest.  Koshwal did all of his damage from the field, hitting 10 of his 18 shots on the night.  The Blue Demons established a 15 point halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half.
     Brenton Butler was the only Ram in double figures with 14 points, including three 3 pointers.  Fordham struggled with their shooting, however, as they could manage only 33% shooting in the game.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #25 DePaul vs. #8 Arizona State

        #28 San Diego 70, #37 McNeese State 61

    San Diego raced out to a 17 point halftime lead and lead the entire way in a 70-61 win over McNeese State in a 1st round West matchup.  The Toreros, who shot 49% percent on the night, were led by Brandon Johnson (22 points) and De’Jon Jackson (16 points, 6 rebounds).
    The Cowboys were led by Diego Kaplan and his 16 points, but they managed to shoot only 36% from the field despite out rebounding San Diego by 12.

        WEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #28 San Diego vs. #5 Dayton
