Press Wars: Arsene Wenger Insists Fabregas Will Stay, Messi Doesn't
Its that time of the season again, as the season eases out to conclusion teams battle early for signatures to fend of competition. For this parties, maybe this time has come way too many times.
Three parties Arsenal, Barcelona and transfer rumor victim Francesc Fabregas.
The midfielder has countless times stated his love for Arsenal, how much the armband means to him and the responsibility he feels with the Arsenal squad.
And if its a case of "actions speaking louder than words", the skipper is the teams leading scorer and the English Premier Leagues assists leader. But maybe that just draw suitors to him more often than not.
A very good friend of Fabregas, current World Player of the Year Leo Messi believes Fabregas will be a Barcelona player sooner rather than later.
āHe will want to win the biggest prizes in football, and I expect him to do that at Barcelona."
"I don't exactly know when that will be, but I expect him to be my Barcelona team-mate again at some point," said Messi, who scored his 40th goal of the season in Barca's 2-0 victory over Real Madrid on Saturday.
"I am sure that Arsene Wenger and Cesc have a father-son relationship and I know that he has a very special relationship with the Arsenal fans."
People might think that this will happen at the tail-end of their careers, but with summer elections coming up at the Catalan club, Barcelona's president Juan Laporta will want to win votes with Fabregas' signature for £50m.
Although Fabregas is under contract at Arsenal till 2014, its hard to say if the board will reject this offer.
Arsene Wenger had his say on the matter yesterday,
"Players at the end of contracts can sign where they want but, with the players who are under contract, we decide on their future," Wenger revealed.
"We are not under any financial need, we are well managed and that gives you one luxury in that you can decide about the future of your players."
Wenger believes Fabregas will see out his contract and stay with the club.
Every professional athlete is ambitious and Fabregas is no exception. Winning the league and the Champions League is definitely something he wants to do. With Barcelona it is more of a reality than with Arsenal.
Whatever Fabregas chooses, it will really affect Arsenal badly and the club will be left to rebuild for the sixth season in a row. As players like Robert Pires, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Flamini, Emmanuel Adebayor and others have left since 2006.
Wenger has to realize that time is running out with his beloved skipper and a trophy might just by him time.
