The Lions 34th Pick In The NFL Draft
While their has been a lot of discussion on the lion number 2 overall pick I wanted to look at their options at 34 (This my first article so please feedback is very much appreciated).
Their has been widespread rumors that this pick may be traded (be it Gaither, Haynesworth, ect.) While their is no sure way to know untill draft day I seriously doubt the lions would deal this pick. If they were to trade a second round pick they most likely would try to use next years second round pick over this years simply based on value. The second pick in the second round is still a very valuable pick whereas next years second rounder could be anywhere on the board hence not as valuable. The only way I really see the pick being traded is if Detroit moves up back into the first round to grab some one who has slipped and they have high on their draft board (Maybe Spiller, Haden, or Williams). Some of my friends suggest that teams maybe trying to make a play for Colt McCoy early on day 2. If this were to happen I would expect them to make an offer with St.Louis before Detroit (remember when we did this with Kevin Smith). These are my top options at 34 if they are availible.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Number 5
Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State
Many mock drafts have him here. He runs a sub 4.5 40 and has good cover skills. Not the biggest corner but he gets the job done and he would start as a rookie.
Number 4
Earl Thomas, SS, Texas/Taylor Mays, FS, USC
It is very possible that one of these guys might fall more than they should. If the rams pass them at 2:1 (maybe McCoy trade) then one these guy would fit in nicely with last years 2nd round safety Delmas.
Number 3
Everson Griffen, DE, USC
The lions like to draft on BPA so they could get him at 34 and have him rotate with Avril/Hunter (imagine Griffen, Suh, Williams, and KVB that would be completely sick).
Number 2
Charles Brown, T, USC
With the draft so deep (and I mean deep) at OT that it is very possible that one of the better OT prospects fall to day 2 we can only hope.
Number 1
Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno St./Jahvid Best, RB, California
With Kevin Smith getting hurt last year one thing has become evident. LIGHTEN HIS LOAD. Smith a work horse since he was in college needs a buddy who can provide Detroit a fresh pair of legs on 3rd down. I see all these teams who have awesome RB tandems (Williams and Stewart, Norwood and Turner, and the threesome Barber, Choice, and Jones) I become very envious. Morris and Brown are average at best. This would not only help Smith but provide Stafford with a new weapon and maybe a return man. As we saw with Harvin last year any playmaker has the potential to be an instant impact as a rookie.
My Thoughts
Overall I trust Martin Mayhew as he is a million times better GM than Millen. I personally hope that it is one of the mentioned safeties/corner fall so that we can solidify our secondary a bit(we still need to sign Pacman). As for our first round selection I am hoping we draft Suh.
