WWE Draft Preview: Old Faces in New Places, Part Three

Josh BrewerApr 13, 2010

Leading up to the highly anticipated WWE Draft in two weeks, I will be highlighting six moves I believe WWE creative should make—whether it be during or after the draft.

Part Two of the series focused on Dolph Ziggler's potential move to Raw. In a move that now seems relatively unlikely considering his title shot at Extreme Rules, Randy Orton was to be the target of the new-to-Raw Ziggler. A long Ziggler-Orton feud could establish Ziggler in the same way Sheamus is becoming established in his feud with Triple H.

Part Three sees another Smackdown superstar head to the greener pastures of Monday Night Raw. Unlike the pushes the two men who moved in the first parts of this series, Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler, this man's push is something that will be more of a future move. Thankfully, though, the push will eventually come.

John Morrison Moves to Raw

From a strictly personal standpoint, I liken Morrison to Rob Van Dam. Much like Van Dam, I love Morrison's potential, on-screen character, and in-ring ability. Also like Van Dam, Morrison isn't terribly strong on the mic.

To get that work, he could work with Chris Jericho and remain on Smackdown. In the fictitious world in which I run WWE creative, however, Kofi Kingston is the next main-event face on Friday nights.

Furthermore, Raw has yet to establish its face of the future. Sheamus is Monday Night's top young heel, but he can't feud with Triple H and John Cena forever.

Enter Morrison.

Once Morrison becomes a member of the Raw roster, I wouldn't want to see him debut in the fashion I proposed Ziggler debut in. In fact, I'd like to keep him no higher than a high mid-card feud.

WWE already teased the feud earlier in the year, and the draft could be the place to begin a full-fledged feud between Morrison and The Miz.

The foundation is already there—The Miz burned Morrison on Raw after the duo lost the Unified Tag Team Titles a couple years ago. With The Miz going over more and more every week, a Morrison-Miz feud could be the beginning of Raw's youth movement. All the while, Morrison could hone his skills while developing on the mic.

Later in 2010, or even in the build to Wrestlemania XXVII, Morrison could begin to make a push through the higher-level stars of Raw. A feud with Sheamus could be in the works, leading up to a huge victory for Morrison at the Royal Rumble...or even Wrestlemania.

Without beating a dead horse too much, John Cena can't be the face of Raw forever. Half of Raw's audience is sick to death of Cena, and sooner or later, a change will need to be made. If Cena were to turn heel, Raw would be without a face that isn't on the tail end of their career.

Shawn Michaels confronted Sheamus this winter, telling him to take the lead because the old stars wouldn't be around forever. Morrison could follow Sheamus' lead and take Raw into the future.
