Ah, those good ol' rock ballads of yesteryear.  A fitting title to an article about football.  A fitting theme to apply to the period of time before the NFL Draft begins on April 22, 2010.

The Philadelphia Eagles presently sit with 11 draft picks.  Only New England (12) has more to date.  Tampa Bay also has 11 picks.  More parlaying of picks could happen at anytime for the Eagles, so stay tuned.

With the 24th pick in the first round, the 37th pick (2nd round), and many other picks throughout the seven rounds, thus far, it seems that Andy Reid and friends will be able to do whatsoever they choose to do.  Trade up, trade down, trade out, trade for future picks, or at the least, just stay put with each selection.

However, we're talking about "Trader Andy" Reid, here.  At least 10 trades of picks in the last two drafts, and over 20 more since 2005.  Has a trend been established in Philly's "War Room" lo these many years?

You betcha.  But, there is still the possibility of "Big Red" staying put with his draft board and staying true to the plan.  Time is indeed on the Birds' side because of the almost sure thing possibility that one or more of the "have--not" teams will call trying to grab a pick or two.  Let's not forget the post draft free agents that they will certainly take a look at should they trade some of this year's picks.

In the late rounds (5th through 7th), unless the Eagles have a player targeted that they want, the phones start ringing and the dealing gets fast and furious.  Andy usually likes to "set up" the next year's draft by trading selections from the current year.  This sometimes yields higher picks for the next draft cycle, for instance this year's sixth rounder for next year's fourth or fifth rounder (depending on the team their trading with and the level of their desperation).

Time is on the side of the Eagles right now.  They sit pretty in the first few rounds and they know it.  A blockbuster move could be in the works, or a couple of minor "tweaks" may happen.  What if they stand pat and draft all 11 players?  They have the moohlah to sign them, and that scenario could very well be what plays out.

We will just have to wait to see what happens.  The draft "wonks" have the Eagles selecting this player or that player in their mock drafts.  The message boarders also have their mock drafts (see Leo Pizzini's page for the latest and best thought out mock draft).

What will they do?  When will they do it?  Will they do it at all?  I'll bet even Mick Jagger and the 'Stones' don't have a clue.

But you can bet that "ol' Trader Andy" does.  Time's your's.
