2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTHWEST REGION – FIRST ROUND

         #25 Citadel 81, #40 Maryland-Eastern Shore 53

    Citadel shot a blistering 57% from the field in an easy 81-53 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore SMCAA 1st round Northwest game.  Cameron Wells led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 7 rebounds as they built a 34-20 halftime lead and never looked back.  Zach Urbanus had 11 points and Joe Wolfinger added 10 off the bench in the win.
    The Hawks were led by Hillary Haley’s 11 points, but no answer defensively in the contest.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #25 Citadel vs. #8 Alabama-Birmingham

        #22 Middle Tennessee State 72, #43 Grambling State 56

    Middle Tennessee State broke open a tight game with a 20-6 second half run and went on to defeat Grambling State 72-56 in a Northwest 1st round matchup.  The Blue Raiders, who trailed 39-37 at halftime, got 18 points from Desmond Yates, 12 points and 10 rebounds from Montario Haddock, and 11 poins from James Washington III in the win.
    The Tigers were led by Donald Qualls and Lance Fuertado who had 15 apiece in the loss.  Grambling was also out rebounded by 17 in the game.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #22 Middle Tennessee State vs. #11 USC

        #24 LSU 70, #41 Alabama A&M 58

    LSU got 18 points from Bo Spencer and 16 points and 10 rebounds from Tasmin Mitchell in a comfortable 70-58 win over Alabama A&M in a 1st round Northwest tilt.  Storm Warren added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the win for the Tigers, who shot on 46% from the free throw line (11-24).
    The Bulldogs were led by 14 points from Casey Cantey off the bench, but shot only 30% from the field in the contest.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #24 Louisiana State vs. #9 Kent State

        #23 Seattle 78, #42 Coppin State 64

    Seattle had 5 players score in double figures and out rebounded Coppin State by 17 in a 78-64 Northwest 1st round win.  The independent, who was playing just 25 minutes from their campus, was boosted by the partisan home crowd as they raced to a 40-24 halftime lead and cruised from there.  Charles Garcia led the Redhawks with 16 points and 12 rebounds and got help from Cervante Burrell (11 points), Aaron Broussard (11 points), Chris Gweth (10 points), and Gavin Gilmore (10 points).
    The Eagles were led by Vince Goldsberry with 11 points and Sam Coleman with 10.
