Fantasy Baseball: Double G Sports Leads Willie Mays Division

Double G SportsCorrespondent IApril 12, 2010

The first week of Battle of the Blogs Fantasy Baseball is over, and Double G Sports stands atop the Willie Mays Division.

My team topped Five Tool Prospects and now has a record of 12-7-1 after one week. That's good enough for first place in the division, two games ahead of KC Sports Central .

My team seemed to be fairly balanced, although the offense carried it for the most part. My pitcher of the week would have to be reliever LaTroy Hawkins, who pitched 3.1 innings and gave up just one hit. He struck out six batters and walked one.

Hawkins had a 0.00 ERA after the first week, which included four points in the saves-holds category. After the first week, Double G Sports leads the league in saves plus holds with 11.

I had a few hitters put up big numbers this past week. One of them was designated hitter Hideki Matsui of the Angels. Matsui is batting .370 with two home runs and five RBI so far. He had 18 total bases in the first week of the season.

Second baseman Robinson Cano also had a big week, batting .360 with two home runs and six RBI. Both Cano and Matsui also had two doubles each.

The third batter worth mentioning is shortstop Edgar Renteria. Entering the season, Renteria was expected to be my backup shortstop behind Jose Reyes. Well, Reyes started the year on the DL, and so far Renteria has taken advantage. After the first week, the shortstop is hitting .524 with a home run and five RBI. He had 16 total bases this week.

Now that Reyes is off the DL, I have a tough decision to make as far as playing time.

See how the rest of the league did and my week two opponent as well at Double G Sports .
