Why Chelsea Will Win the Premier League

Charley MannApr 12, 2010

All hail Chelsea, leader of the pack!

After Manchester United's 0-0 draw against the Blackburn Rovers this weekend, Chelsea has cemented its top-dog status in the Premier League rankings.

It's their title to lose and they will not let it go. Barring a severe outbreak of the bubonic plague at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea should hold back the hounds of Arsenal and United. Why do I have such confidence? Keep reading.

Strength of Schedule : Only Liverpool and Tottenham present any kind of threat for upset down the stretch. Otherwise, games against Bolton, Wigan Athletic and Stoke City should be locked in victories.

Momentum : Chelsea's battering of Aston Villa in the FA Cup came on the heels of their battering of Aston Villa in the regular season. They are fresh off of beating Manchester United at Old Trafford. The tide is in their favor with some big successive wins.

Home Field Advantage : Out of the final five fixtures, three of them are at home for Chelsea. That speaks for itself.

Florent Malouda and Yuri Zhirkov : Both players are growing with every fixture and are becoming integral parts of the Chelsea defense and offense.

Didier Drogba : Even while seeing some time on the sidelines due to injury, Drogba continues to increase his tally of goals. He is only getting healthier, and, in the mean time, every time he comes off the bench he manages to find the back of the opponent's net.

The Ruining of Rooney : It is evident after their draw against Blackburn that United needs the excellent finishing of star striker Wayne Rooney. Without him, they will have to hope to limp their way to second place.

The Fall of Fabregas : Arsenal's top-notch midfielder and captain, Fabregas, is suffering from injury like Rooney. However, manager Arsene Wenger is possibly going to try to play him against the Spurs this week, which is the worst way to court disaster.

There are plenty of other nitpick reasons that Chelsea will finish strong, but the above are the primary highlights at the moment. Sorry to United fans, but four in a row just was not meant to be. As for Arsenal fans, you've put up a good fight and are looking good for a second place finish this year, which is worthwhile in itself.

I look forward to raising my blue banner in victory with the rest of the Chelsea nation out there at the end of the season!
