Would Winning the Double Make Carlo Ancelotti Chelsea's New Special One?
A fantastic week for Chelsea has seen them ease into the FA Cup final, beating Aston Villa 3-0 at Wembley Stadium in their semifinal tie.
Their weekend was made even more enjoyable as Blackburn Rovers held Premier League rivals, Manchester United, to a 0-0 draw at Ewood Park.
Chelsea now finds themsevles sitting at the peak of the Premier League mountain, one point ahead of title challenging Man United, with a game in hand.
Despite Chelsea's bitter defeat to former manager Jose Mourinho and his Inter Milan side in the Champions League, manager Carlo Ancelotti has steadied the ship nicely, and the Blues are sailing on course to a domestic double.
If Carlo Ancelotti leads his Chelsea side to their first ever Premier League/FA Cup double, would he have outdone the self-proclaimed "Special One" to become Chelsea's new "Special One"?
Jose Mourinho took Chelsea to their first-ever Premier League title in his first year in charge at the London side.
Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Stamford Bridge at the start of this season as the fifth different man to lead Chelsea in the space of under two years.
In his first season, he put his team in prime contention for a third Premier League title with five games remaining as well as driving his side to the final of the FA Cup.
When the Portuguese "Special One" joined Chelsea in 2004 he inherited a team from Claudio Ranieri that had spent over ā¬100 million on players the previous summer.
Mourinho then spent a further ā¬100 million during the transfer window to bring in further artillery.
Despite constant big money rumours about Chelsea acquiring young stars, such as Sergio Aguerio and Alexandre Pato, Ancelotti refused to ask Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to put his hand in his pocket upon his arrival this summer.
The Italian manager used the players as his disposal along with the four summer signings of Ross Turnbull, Daniel Sturridge, Nemanja Matic and Yuri Zhirkov for a combined cost of less than £25 million.
Not only would winning the league and retaining the FA Cup out do what Jose Mourinho was able to accomplish in his first year, Carlo Ancelotti would join a prestigious list of two.
Only Alex Ferguson and Arsene WengerĀ have won both the FA Cup and Premier League in the same season.
Carlo Ancelotti has also had major off the field issues to deal with. Captain John Terry was placed under major scrutiny after news of an affair was made public.
Ancelotti has also had the disturbance of an African Cup of Nations in January along with big injuries to key players such as Michael Essien and Ashley Cole.
Despite the unwanted circumstances, Carlo Ancelotti has made his Chelsea side raise to the top.
Jose Mourinho holds a special place in the heart of Chelsea fans, but even the "Special One" could not accomplish such a feet in his first year in the English league.
Carlo Ancelotti inherited what many claimed was an aging and a done squad. He revamped their formation and philosophy and has them placed in the best possible position to win an unprecedented league and FA Cup double.
Have Stamford Bridge found their new "Special One"?
