Newman Wins Subway Fresh Fit 600 @ Phoenix
Ryan Newman in his Tornados #39 Chevy Impala for Stewart Haas Racing went to victory lane Saturday night in a green white checker finish holding off Jeff Gordon in a wild finish. This was Newman's first win since the 2008 Daytona 500 and the first for Stewart Haas in 2010. Kyle Busch who dominated the second half of the race after taking the lead from Jimmie Johnson was leading when the caution came out with just a few laps to go when the #90 of Scott Riggs hit the wall and cut a tire. Busch along with the leaders came to pit road and some drivers took four tires and some only two, but it would be Gordon getting off pit road first ahead of Newman and on the restart Gordon spun the tires and Newman passed him for the win. A bad night in Phoenix for Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne and Brian Vickers who all suffered accidents. Scott Riggs in the #90 cut a tire and the 34 car of Travis Kvapil blew a engine. Denny Hamlin did stay in the car tonight despite getting caught up in a accident and having electrical problems he finished a couple laps down. The series heads to Texas next weekend the site of Jeff Gordon's last win last April.
