Lightweight Championship Bout

First Round

Herb Dean is back in for this lightweight title fight. 

Penn makes Edgar miss and misses with a left of his own.  Edgar rushes in and hits with a faint leg kick.  Penn blocks a head kick and makes him miss with a leg kick.  Penn hits with a left hand and puts Edgar on his heels. 

Edgar comes right back at him and hits with a jab.  A front kick misses by Edgar and a right hand as well.  Penn hits with a left-right combo. 

Both fighters miss with hooks and Edgar then hits with a leg kick.  Penn hits Edgar with an uppercut while defending a takedown.  Edgar rushes in and gets clipped again with an uppercut. 

He backs up and races around the octagon.  Penn hits with a left jab.  Edgar comes in and hits with a combination but Penn brushes it off.  Penn hits with a knee and throws Edgar to the floor. 

Edgar gets back up immediately as the bell sounds.

Second Round

Penn has a small bruise below his left eye as the second round is underway. 

Penn hits with a jab and a short left hook.  Penn stands his ground and defends a takedown attempt.  Penn makes Edgar miss and hits with a left to the body.  Penn misses with a hard right hand. 

Penn hits with a partial left hook and then throws Edgar off balance with an uppercut.  Edgar hits with a left hook and Penn counters.  Edgar has his takedown blocked again.  Penn blocks a leg kick and misses with a left hand. 

Penn then hits with a combo and misses with a hard right.  Edgar has a leg kick blocked.  Edgar is tagged with a right hand as he dashes around the octagon. 

Penn hits with a left hook as Edgar rushes in.  Edgar answers with a low leg kick and throws Penn to the floor. 

Penn bounces back up and gets in the middle of the octagon.  The bell ends the second round as Edgar lands a right hand.

Third Round

The third round begins with Dean toweling Edgar off.  Penn and Edgar meet in the center of the octagon and Edgar hits with a body shot. 

Penn hits with a jab and a hook.  Edgar lands a left hook and misses with a leg kick.  Penn misses with a right hand but hits with a couple of others.  Edgar misses with a combo and gets tagged for it by Penn.  Edgar hits with a left inside leg kick.  Penn hits with a left hook and another as Edgar rushes in. 

Edgar hits with a combo and a body shot.  Penn and Edgar exchange lefts.  Edgar moves in a circle around the octagon and Penn hits with a left hook.  Edgar hits with a leg kick and falls after lunging. 

Another left hook finds a home for Penn.  Penn hits with a body kick as Edgar goes in for the takedown.  Penn misses with a hard right and defends another takedown.  A leg kick but Edgar finds a home as does a left hand by Penn as the bell ends the round.

Fourth Round

Edgar hit with a right hand to start the fourth round.  Penn answers with a left hand of his own. 

An uppercut by Penn misses as does a right hand by Edgar.  Penn hits with a short left hand and Edgar rushes in but misses with most of his combo. 

Edgar misses with another takedown attempt.  A leg kick by Edgar is checked but a high head kick almost gets through. 

Penn pushes his jab in Edgar’s face and steps back after he gets hit with a right hand.  Edgar ducks and puts a right hand in Penn’s face.  Penn hit with a right hand and defends against a takedown. 

Edgar misses with a combo as Penn misses with a counter attack.  Penn tags Edgar with a right hand and a left.  Edgar rushes Penn and gets hit with a right hand.  Penn hit Edgar with a left hook and misses with a left jab. 

Edgar and Penn trade punches as the end of the fourth round is complete.

Fifth Round

The final round is underway and both fighters look fresh. 

Edgar comes with a combo and then a right.  Most of the punches miss but Edgar gets a takedown.  Penn gets back up after a short scramble. 

They reset in the center of the octagon and Penn fakes a punch.  Edgar hits with a left hand and then a head kick. 

Penn's defense causes Edgar to miss with a body shot.  Penn missed with a right hook but hits with a leg kick.  Penn hits with another leg kick.  Edgar pushes a left hand in Penn’s face and then circles around the champ. 

Edgar finds a home for a right hand on Penn’s face.  Penn has his head kick blocked.  Edgar misses with a left hook and is pushed away by Penn.  Edgar hits with a left hook and blocks a right hand.  Edgar hits with a leg kick setup by a right hand. 

Penn misses with a looping right hand and gets hit with a left jab.  Penn hits with a left hand and hits with an uppercut.  Edgar comes in and is popped with a right hand.  Edgar has his takedown stuffed and hits with an uppercut. 

The final round is complete with both fighters in each other's arms.
