Sir Alex Ferguson, after Manchester United's exit from the Champions League, is looking to bring in reinforcements. He started of with confirming that United had reached a deal to sign the talented 22-year-old Javier "Chicarito" Hernandez from Mexican club Chivas, subject to his obtaining a UK work permit.
The signing of "Little Pea" may only be the start of a summer buying spree by Ferguson as he looks to reinforce his squad for next season.
If recent news are to be believed, the Red Devils' are planning to make a swoop for Napoli's extremely talented and skillful midfielder Marek Hamsik. Hamsik has been in superb form this season for his club Napoli.
Hamsik played in Serie B club Brescia before he was signed by Napoli in 2007. His association with Napoli has been a happy one. After joining Napoli he has been their top goal scorer in his first two seasons with the club.
Hamsik is gifted with superb anticipating skills. His biggest asset is that he is always present at the right place at the right time. He is a superb playmaker and can create pure goal scoring chances out of nothing.
With Ferguson looking to add some more pace and creativity in his midfield the Slovakian national team regular can be a very good bargain for United at about £16 million. The 22-year-old Hamsik with his superb anticipation, eye for goal and ability to command play can be the perfect replacement for United veteran Paul Scholes.
He can play as a central midfielder but prefers a more attacking role. He is also physically strong for an attacking midfielder which makes him all the more perfect to fit in Premier League's physical style of football. His pace and creativity can help him gel easily with United's creative and pacy style of play.
But Hamsik has some drawbacks also, and the most important is his poor defensive qualities. On defensive prowess he is nowhere near as strong and on numerous occasions fails to retreat back as often as he is required. But he has age on his side and can be developed into one of the best young attacking midfielders in the world.
Although the Red Devils' are facing financial constraints but Ferguson can expect to get some fund from the proceeds of Cristiano Ronaldo's sale to Real last summer. Although Napoli would not prefer to sell there top goal scorer, they will not be able to stop the youngster if a lucrative call comes from the European powerhouse.
Moreover, if the club fails to secure a Champions League spot next season they may sell him to balance their accounts.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also among the other contenders for this promising youngster. Chelsea have been long admirers of the Slovak international and United may face stiff competiton from their top of the table rivals for securing Hamsik's sign.
Hamsik will be playing the FIFA World Cup for his country this June, before the next season starts. Hamsik, who won the Slovakian Young Player of the Year awards in 2007 and 2008 has a lot to prove this summer at the World Cup. His performance may decide where he plays next season. It may give him an opportunity to prove his credibility to the world. It will also give his suitors a view of his highly rated footballing skills.
Although these are mere speculations the Red Devils fans will be no doubt be delighted to have such a talented kid in their team.
All English Premier League fans will be hoping to see the young talented Slovak play next season. But then these are mere speculations. Nothing yet official.
