HBO Boxing Knocks Out Everyone in the Month of April

According to a press release HBO Sports will be presenting a power packed boxing line up for the month of April which includes three consecutive weeks of live doubleheader fights paired with premiere  episodes of 24/7 Mayweather/Mosley.

The opening bell rings this Saturday, April 10 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT live from Florida with an exciting doubleheader. The first bout is a 12-round featherweight contest between Celestino Caballero and Daud Yordan. Then in the main event will be undefeated welterweight champion Andre Berto defending his title against Carlos Quintana.

Berto is of Haitian American descent and is fighting for the first time since the devastating tragedy to his families homeland where he lost several family members in the earthquake. Quintana is the only fighter to defeat the much avoided and feared Paul Williams.

Preceding the live doubleheader will be the highly anticipated debut of the award winning reality series 24/7 Mayweather/Mosley at 10:00p.m. ET/7:00 PT, with an encore presentation immediately after the double header.

Then on Saturday, April 17 comes the international double header of top super middleweight champion Lucian Bute vs Edison Miranda from Montreal and then the middleweight champion fight of Kelly Pavlik defending his title against Sergio Martinez from the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.

Many consider Bute to be the top super middleweight champion despite him not being involved in the Super Middleweight Tournament. Miranda has been a gatekeeper/launch pad for most fighters at 160 and 168, a big win over him usually skyrockets a fighters career. 

Pavlik is still the recognized lineal champion at middleweight and Martinez is coming off of an impressive fight with Paul Williams who many felt he won that fight. There is no way these fights will be anything less than spectacular for all four fighters have the power and fighting style to provide an exciting knock out. 

The night also again kicks off with the debut of episode two of 24/7 Mayweather/Mosley at 9:30p.m. ET/6:30p.m. PT followed by the live fights at 10:00p.m. ET/7:00p.m. PT.

On Saturday April 24 on HBO’s Boxing After Dark at 11:15p.m. ET/PT is the exciting heavyweight showdown between Tomasz Adamek making his HBO debut against the powerful Cristobal Arreola from Ontario, California.  The co-feature bout is Alfredo Angulo vs Joel Julio in a junior middleweight battle.  The night kicks off with the third episode of 24/7 Mayweather/Mosley at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT and will air again after the fight.

The month of April ends on a high note with the fourth and final episode of 24/7 Mayweather/Mosley debuts Friday April 30 at 8:30p.m. ET/PT

Ross Greenburg, President of HBO Sports made the following statement, “We’re particularly excited about our boxing lineup in April because all three weekends feature live doubleheader action on the main HBO service with many stars in meaningful and significant showdowns.” 

Greenburg then went on to state “Boxing fans get to see Andre Berto, Kelly Pavlik, Sergio Martinez, Cristobal Arreola, Lucian Bute, and Alfredo Angulo make their 2010 ring debuts on HBO this month.  And the opportunity to pair the premiere of the first three editions of "24/7 Mayweather/Mosley" with live doubleheader boxing action is a first for the 24/7 series.”

If HBO continues to have knock out months of boxing like the month of April then they just might be able to make boxing what it once was the number one sport and back on top of the world.
