Vernon Wells Alive and Well: Blue Jays Outfielder Has Monster Opening Series
Three games, six hits, four home runs, and seven RBI.
That isn’t the hitting line for Alex Rodriguez, or Albert Pujols, or even Prince Fielder.
It’s the hitting line for Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells.

That’s right—VERNON WELLS!
After three years of going through injuries and toiling in mediocrity, Wells has started the 2010 season absolutely on fire. He was a one-man wrecking crew against the Texas Rangers in the Blue Jays' opening series.
Though he hit three home runs in his first two games, perhaps his home run yesterday was the most meaningful. With the Blue Jays down 1-0 in the ninth inning, Wells hit a solo home run to tie the game at one against Rangers closer Frank Francisco (it’s only a matter of time before he gets replaced by Neftali Feliz).
The next batter, Lyle Overbay, tripled, and the Blue Jays eventually rallied for a 3-1 victory. Jason Frasor, who was terrible Opening Day, saved his second consecutive game for the Jays.
But back to Wells for a second.
He is only 31 years old and only four years removed from a .303/32/106/.899 season. I am not sure if he can approach those numbers again.
However, a .300/25/85 season is certainly doable, especially if he is hitting behind Aaron Hill and Adam Lind for the entire season. RBI opportunities should be there for Wells.
If he is available in your fantasy league, it is definitely worth picking Wells up. He could serve as a valuable fourth outfielder or bench player down the road.
