At Georgia and then Florida back-to-back. We get a week off and then Auburn comes to town. Alabama will be much improved next year and we have to travel to Tuscaloosa. We also go from eight home games to six home games. We play at Washington out of conference to start the season a handful of timezones away. The Huskies will get rid of Willingham and become a decent team.

At least we get to play Vandy.

I still think LSU will do well, they just have a much tougher year next year than they do this year.

Any thoughts?

  1. everyone has some back to back toughies.

last year, fla had AU at home before coming to death valley.

an off week is a big deal. while most see UGA, UF, and AU back to back to back; really it's just UGA and UF back to back then a bye week. a much needed bye week and two weeks to prepare for a traditionally tough west oppoenent.

2009 is much easier than 08, imo even though the ooc is slightly (emphasis on slightly) better.

as with most odd years, the tigers should really make a push for something special after '08 in which LSU should take a small dip in success.

    1. LSU FOOTBALL
      A TRADITION . . . SINCE AUGUST 2003

  2. You never know. Georgia may be down next year, it might be Alabama and Ole Miss you have to worry about.

Who you better worry about this year is Appalachian State. They tell me Josef the Mountaineer is coming to get you like he did your coach's alma mater last year. They want 2 for 2. They say they are the true defending national champions.

    1. "Who you better worry about this year is Appalachian State. They tell me Josef the Mountaineer is coming to get you like he did your coach's alma mater last year. They want 2 for 2. They say they are the true defending national champions."

Actually, I STILL BELIEVE that MY Kansas Jayhawks are the TRUE DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, lolz :)

    2. Maybe Georgia, Alabama, Auburn or Florida will be down. But I don't think many people expect them to.

Appy State is a good team, but LSU knows something that Michigan didn't and won't let it happen again.

  3. Hmm...only 6 home games? That's about right. You guys are batting 75% over the last ten years in terms of home game percentages. Moreno and Stafford may not be back for their senior years, so that's a bright spot! :)

  4. If they could have split the schedule up, there a good chance this could have been playing in a BCS bowl. @ Bama, @ Ole Miss, and Arkansas won't be a cake walk next year either. At least they have Florida and Auburn (a week off to prepare) at home. Washington won't be much trouble. They might get off to a slow start, but Washington really isn't that good.

  5. How many home games are fair for a big time team? 6, 7, 8?

    1. Good question....but I know USC usually averages six because they have to play everyone in their conference and so of course, it switches every year, and on non-conf games they schedule home-and-home formats (OSU here, SC at the 'Shoe next year) while many (but not all) SEC teams schedule non-conf games at home.

LSU has enjoyed an extremely favorable home field advantage over the last ten years- this 2009 schedule might give them pause for thought. I know a lot of schools will not do anything but home-and-home formats anymore, so scheduling non-conf home games only may be a thing of the past.

Heck , good for the Tigers' fans getting to see a lot of Tigers football, I'm jealous, I can't remember when USC had more than six home games.

  6. November will be every bit as tough as October. Southern Miss is always dangerous (more so than Tulane, anyway); Saban will be a year better at Bama; Nutt, Snead, and Enrique Davis will be a year better at Ole Miss; and finally LSU will close with Arkansas where Ryan Mallett will be handed the keys to Petrino's offense in 2009.

  7. You know what, that 1st game at Washington in '09 might be really tough. The trip will take something out of the Tigers. They'll have to keep their head on straight for that odd meeting.

  8. Er, it's too early to say - even for a college football fan? In 2007 we thought that Appalachian State would get killed by Michigan. In 2007 we thought top-ranked Ohio State would beat Illinois in the Horseshoe. In 2007 we thought a rejuvenated Alabama team would thrash tiny Louisiana Monroe? And in 2007, we thought that LSU would run the table. We don't know what's going to happen in 2008, let alone 2009. It's too darned early.

    Oh well, that's college football.

For the really early bird, though, I'm forecasting LSU's 2009 record to be 9-3, losing to Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.

  9. Have you seen Georgia's schedule for 2008?

Road games at South Carolina, Arizona State, Kentucky, LSU, and Auburn.

    Neutral game vs Florida.

Home dates vs Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech.

UGA plays Tenn, Vandy, LSU, Florida, and Aub consecutively.

If Georgia makes it through the season as SEC champs, they should be handed the national title right after they are handed the SEC trophy. This is the toughest schedule college football has seen in years.

It makes that schedule you posted above look like a cakewalk.

  10. Lisa, I think if USC wants to schedule 8 home games, then they should. I like the sort of capitalist governing structure of college football. Not everyone has to play by the same rules, which make it interesting.

Since I'm going to be in Baton Rouge, I want to see 8 home games for mostly selfish reasons.
