The WWE Starting To Push Younger Talent, But Is the Talent Ready

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 7, 2010

For a long time the WWE has been slammed by critics and fans for only featuring a few top stars while pushing the young guys down.

In the last year or so the WWE has begun pushing some of its younger talent, but are they choosing the right talent to push?

CM Punk was pushed very quickly and he became the first person to win the tag, IC and world titles all in the same year.Ā  Punk was pushed to three world titles, but has recently been out of the title picture while forming his group the Straight Edge Society.

Jeff Hardy, despite being a 10-plus year veteran, was another young guy who was pushed to his first world title run before subsequently leaving to pursue other interests.

Kofi Kingston got a major push last year when he feuded with Randy Orton.Ā  Kofi was said to have been pushed due to WWE's lack of African American talent in the top rankings, but I think he was pushed because fans responded to his style.

Now Jack Swagger is world champion, and he is the next name in a list of talent that WWE will push for a short time before putting him back in the mid card. How do I know this?Ā  Because Swagger's mic skills suck and having good promo ability is key for a main event player these days.

The WWE is moving in the right direction, but is that direction a few degrees off, perhaps?Ā  Look at the talent the WWE has in its ranks.Ā  Now look at what that talent is being used for.

Carlito and Primo are all but non existent these days, Evan Bourne is a glorified jobber, Kofi is used as filler and Shelton Benjamin...well we all know what Shelton is up to—nothing.

The WWE has all these great performers and they don't know how to use them.

Here are a few suggestions for feuds and storylines that I think could help WWE.

First of all, bring back the cruiserweight title and get rid of the US title by merging it with the IC.Ā  WWE has plenty of talent who weigh less that 230 pounds and could compete in high-flying exciting matches over this belt.

Two, stop breaking up popular tag teams.Ā  Cryme Tyme is now gone due to Shad, Carlito and Primo were broken up very quickly, Croft and Barretta have not been used in a while, and Jerishow was actually fun to watch before being split up.Ā  WWE needs to step up their tag division soon.

Three, have Evan Bourne feud with Mysterio.Ā  I dont care which one goes heel but these two have had a couple incredible matches and to see them go at it more often would be very entertaining.

Four, Have HHH turn heel already.Ā  The guy has been a dominating babyface for too long, he could be re-energized with a new direction and maybe even respected by the hardcore fans again.

And lastly, have some talented women's wrestler replace the ones who are meant to be models and have a respectable women's division again.

What do you think WWE can do to get back on track?
