UFC HW Roy Nelson: Damn, You've Set the Bar Too High!
This seemed a very appropriate article to write on my 42nd Wedding Anniversary.
Why, you may ask, or at least wonder?
My husband Mel and I used to be very physically fit and very, very active. We aren't any longer due to old age, past injuries, and other illness issues that come with aging. As once attractive young people, it is a bitter pill to swallow to get old, out of shape, and very irrelevant to even aging 40-year-olds in the midst of their own midlife crises.

UFC 6 Reveals 5-Star Fighter Ratings
Since MMA is my favorite sport, I watch all things MMA and am very invested in the fighters who are established or are currently rising up the ladder in the different organizations.
Roy Nelson appeared on my radar when he was fighting for an organization other than the UFC, and during a time when Bodog fights were available on TV and were broadcast form different exotic locales.
I believe the fight was in Russia, but with the loss of my aging faculties, I could be wrong.
The venue was a ring inside an extravagantly red velvet draped room with fight patrons dressed in elegant evening wear. It had chandeliers and beautiful crystal light fixtures.
Wow! How impressive.
When Big Country entered the ring, I thought, "Surely there has been some mistake. He can't be one of the fighters!"
Well, surprise, surprise, he was, and after a very long and gruelling match, he emerged victorious, much to my surprise.
That seemed ages ago. At that point in time, I was impressed that someone who appeared so completely out of shape, could get inside a traditional ring without falling on his very fat face, let alone take the beating he had and somehow pull off a win.
More recently, when Roy was on the TUF series, I, like Dana White, hoped some other fighter would win the contract. Someone who was physically fit, and a proper-appearing specimen for the UFC.
Surprise again! Roy won!
Well darn! That throwback just killed something inside every fat fan of the UFC!
How can fat fans tolerate having a heavyweight who looks just like them, but unlike the fat fans, can enter a cage and win a fight five different ways from Sunday?
Roy Nelson, this is not fair. As a member of a quickly growing obese society, you have raised the bar too high!
What are those of us who appear just as fat and flabby as you, to do with our lives now?
Our children will not listen when we say, "you can't eat that much junk food or you will get fat" when Roy Nelson is in the octagon taking names and kicking ass. You are a paradox, and will make parenting our children impossible.
What are you doing to the fat crowd of the world?
Soon, all fat people will be expected to be able to hold their own with those disgusting gym rats who are in great shape and own great physiques.
Children will begin to expect the fatties to "play in the yard" with them after school and every weekend.
We will be pressured to take long walks, go on outings, shop at the mall, and interact with the fit and fabulous who do not have our "problem".
Worst of all, what if you, Roy Nelson, are no longer overlooked and underrated by the masses and get a title shot?
Well, knowing you, it will only get worse for other fatties and you will win.
Then what will the fat and disenchanted among us do?
Join a gym?
As much as I hoped I would never have to say this, "Good luck Big Country, my husband and I will be pulling for you!"
