Breaking Down the NBA 2009-2010 Regular Season Award Winners

Danny DukkerApr 5, 2010

The NBA season is coming to an end. It was filled with wonderful moments, frustrating moments, and simply put, stupid moments. Nevertheless it is now too late to cry and whine about the season. So, I am going to take the moral high ground and not kill any of the players I hate oh so much.
You never read that... Anyway here go my awards.

Most Improved Player

1 of 6

The winner is Aaron Brooks. He has went far and beyond what was expected of him. Last year, he surprised many people with his production especially towards the end of the season. He has gone up in every single category (except FT%). He has amazing offensive abilities and is averaging just under 20 points and has 5 assists per game.
I can only see him improve and we will have to pay attention to see what the Rockets will do when Yao comes back and what moves the will make in the off-season. The Rockets team is a very threatening squad and this should not change.

Sixth Man of the Year

2 of 6

The winner is Jamal Crawford. This was one of the easiest decisions to make. This guy has done everything the Hawks wanted him to do and then some. He is averaging nice numbers at just over 17 points a game, but he is very careful. When he comes into the game, he scores, but he doesn't disrupt the flow of the Hawks.
He takes the chances and creates buckets, but he is a very smart player. The Hawks should be considered one of the favorites in the playoffs and you know this guy is just hungry for his first ring and he will fight to get it.
A message to whoever faces the Hawks, look out for Jamal Crawford!

Defensive Player of the Year

3 of 6

The winner is Dwight Howard. The gap between him and Josh Smith on the defensive end is closing very quickly. If Josh Smith improves the way he has over the last couple of seasons, my vote goes to him. It was hard not to vote for him this time, but alas it is not to be.
Howard is leading his team to the playoffs with one of the most talented groups in the league. In my opinion (which is better than yours) they should be considered favorites to get to the Finals and maybe, just maybe win.
He averages a respectful 2.8 Blocks and 1 steal and is still one of the most feared presences in the paint. His athleticism and length make him a legitimate threat at both ends of the court.
Oh and by the way, that picture of him and Kobe has to be one of my favorite pictures of the season.

Coach of the Year

4 of 6

Winner is Alvin Gentry. Yeah, yeah I know he is the coach of the Suns and it might be wrong for a die hard Suns fan to post something like this. However, how can you argue? The Suns are looking at 50+ wins this year and a chance at the number one seed. Last year if one may recall they did not make the playoffs.
Scott Brooks is a great argument for the win this year, but he has a better squad!
Brooks has Durant, Green, Westbrook, and Harden who he can rely on. Gentry has Nash, Nash, Nash, Nash, Nash, Amare, J-Rich, and Nash!! That is not very fair! Gentry has led this Suns team which by the way had its highest scoring season in Franchise history!! That is something to proud of.
In my opinion, if I was voting I would not question my decision of Gentry.
P.S. Don't you think Steve Nash should get nods for Coach of the Year?

Rookie of the Year

5 of 6

Winner is Tyreke Evans. No question. He averages an amazing 20-5-5 and in my opinion should be an all-star in no time (maybe next season?). He has become the leader of the Kings and they do not exactly have a model record (24-53) Evans is not doubt the Rookie of the Year.
I see many great players in him and he will only, I repeat only improve as time goes by and the season records get better and better. He should win multiple rings in his career as well as a couple of MVP awards. He is truly one of the most elite players in the league.

Most Valuable Player

6 of 6

The winner is King James. Another amazing season for the best player on the planet. He has amazed critics and fans yet again! His numbers have went up where they should have and gone down where they should have. This is not going to be a competition and LeBron coasts for an easy win.
The Cavaliers while looking to make a deep run in the playoffs still lack some depth. (awkward sentence to break up the flow)
James is no doubt going to be the NBA MVP for years to come. He has already convinced many spectators that he is truly one of the best this game has ever seen.
I still am not convinced, but give me two more seasons and I will be. The King takes the throne again!
