Raw Guest Hosts: Enough Is Enough and It's Time for a Change

John BetschelApr 5, 2010

The WWE Raw guest host idea started back in June 2009 by Donald Trump, when he (kayfabe) owned Raw.

Since that time, many different people have guest hosted and assumed the prestigious GM position for the night: Batista, Trish Stratus, Bret Hart, Jeremy Piven, Shaq, The Million Dollar Man, the list goes on.

But to quote the late, great Owen Hart, "Enough is enough, and it's time for a change."

At first, it seemed like it might be a pretty good idea.

It gave wrestlers and diva (Trish), a chance to come back and shine for one night, whether it be because of injury, or just simply no longer being in the company because of retirement.

It also gave the fans a chance to see some of their favorite wrestlers (and diva) that they hadn’t seen in a while come back and put in check some of the superstars of today.

They had celebrities here and there, but the ones they did have were seen at wrestling events in the past and had been recognized as huge wrestling fans.

But then it got to the point in which celebrities that were showing up weren't even wrestling fans. They were just there to promote their new movie, new CD, or something else for the media.

As a wrestler on Smackdown said a while back when they were having the Bragging Rights PPV, it's becoming nothing but a glorified Saturday Night Live.

Also to top it all off, sometimes the guest hosts wouldn't even show up until the show was already half over.

They would finally show up with 40 minutes left in the show and make the main event, then that’s the last we see of them.

Last week's hosts, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke, are two of the stars from the movie Hot Tub Time Machine .

From what I could see, these guys didn't seem like wrestling fans at all; they were just there to plug their movie and sit in a hot tub with half the divas.

Now I can't blame these guys.

First I'd think I had died and gone to heaven and second I'd ask, "Where do I sign?"

Now I don't speak for the entire WWE Universe, but when I tune in to see Monday Night Raw I want to see wrestling, not some dude driving his race car around in the parking lot, or plugging his new movie that’s coming out.

What WWE needs to do is hire a permanent GM; maybe in the upcoming draft, Tiffany could get drafted to Raw and they can make her permanent GM.

She isn't really being used on Smackdown even though she can wrestle, and she was good as the GM on ECW.

All in all in my opinion the WWE is going in the wrong direction with this whole guest host thing, and will hopefully fix the situation soon.

Tonight they have David Otunga hosting Raw; what a surprise, out of all the NXT rookies that they could of had host, they use the one that has the most media exposure.

After looking up his name on Wikipedia, I came to find out he was 'Punk' on the reality show "I Love New York" which automatically had me lose all respect I had for this guy.

But I can't complain too much, at least he has something to do with wrestling and is involved with the overall product.

What do you think though? Do you like the whole guest host thing or do you think they should just put on a permanent GM?
