NY Yankees: The Yankees are defending champions and seem to just get better and better every year. The off-season changes were mild for the Yankees but they did part way with Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, and Hideki Matsui. In exchange they brought in Javier Vasquez and Curtis Granderson for an upgrade in the outfield. Regardless of the changes the Yankees are still solid from top to bottom and will be one of the best teas in baseball. The first start of the season will go to CC Sabathia and he is ready to take on the Red Sox!

Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox had some big changes in the off-season as they did not match the offer for Jason Bay and he went to the new York Mets. That left a glaring power hole in the Red Sox lineup. The Sox acquired a great pitcher in John Lackey but when it came to hitting the Sox signed often injured and aging players like Mike Cameron and Adrian Beltre. Josh Beckett gets the nod for the Red Sox and will start opening night against the NY Yankees.
Preview and Pick: The Red Sox may surprise a few people with just how good of a team this is especially on defense. They have solid pitching from top to bottom and will play a rock solid defense. Josh Beckett loves the friendly confines of Fenway Park and is 10-1 in his last 11 starts in beantown. CC Sabathia is as solid as it gets when it comes to pitching but he struggles with control early in the season. He has allowed more walks in April games than any other month of the season and has had location issues in spring training. Last year he was 3-1 against Boston but all three of those wins came after the All Star break. The Red Sox are one of the most patient teams at the plate and this will lead to plenty of scoring opportunities. The Red Sox win with pitching and defense and start the season off with a win at home!
