Why a John Cena Win at Wrestlemania May Cost the WWE Their Future
In the WWE, there are two options. Become a heel or a face. When it comes to John Cena though, well I'm pretty sure we know where the once "Doctor of Thuganomics" stands with the WWE Universe.
The fans however, tell a different story when referring to John Cena. You only have to watch tape of the sold-out Hammerstein Ballroom in 2006 to realise that John Cena has his fair share of haters along with admirers.
Thankfully, one of his haters happens to be "The Animal" Batista, and when it comes to rivalries, this one has only just developed overnight but also has the potential to go down as one of the greats.
Numerous references to John Cena's so-called fashion sense and even an ounce of abuse directed toward the WWE Universe, it's safe to say that Batista fills the heel fans' needs more than Randy Orton once did.
But what about the match? Sure it is anticipated, but as we all know Wrestlemania is often John Cena's playground, and judging by the WWE's desperate attempt at outdoing TNA in 2010, the likelihood of Cena regaining the WWE Title is very high.
With that said though, there is cause for concern if John Cena does get the deed done and please the eight-year-old crowd of Cena fans in the process.
In the past, we've seen John with the belt numerous times. Winning against all odds, beating the best of the best, and overcoming all odds to more or less win the title for his true supporters.
Tonight though, may prove different. In case you missed last week's episode of WWE Raw, you missed the short but loud chant of "You Can't Wrestle", something that was devised by ECW faithful some four years ago.
Not since the Randy Orton vs. John Cena rivalry mid last year have we heard such chants as regularly, but the truth of the matter is that Dave Batista has dished out some truth in his promos lately, and left the veteran WWE fan wondering what a John Cena win would do for our beloved company.
Realistically, those who watch professional wrestling on the average basis like John Cena. But for the true, hardy fans that are there week in and week out know that John Cena is a great wrestler, but he is winning far too often.
Therefore, the importance for a Batista victory is there. Like the Patriots vs. the Giants in the Super Bowl, Batista is the underdog, yet his dominance in the ring and his power with a microphone has given some people a reason to believe that Cena won't yet again beat the odds.
One thing I personally look at though, is that John Cena has been getting annihilated in recent weeks at the hands of The Animal. Steel steps, steel chairs or just straight up spinebusters, John Cena has been done over time and time again in the last month, so he is due for a bit of a cheer.
Whichever way this match goes, it will decide the future of the business. A Cena win means more criticism, more doubt and more "I wish we could relive the Attitude era" debate. A Batista win is a step in the right direction. More violence, more truth and a belief that we don't have another Hulk Hogan situation on our hands.
The match itself will be good, but just remember the importance it bears along with it. A rivalry yes, but an important event in WWE history.
