Imagine this: You go into work and immediately your boss calls you into his/her office.  You take a seat, and your boss asks, “We are sorry, but will can only allow you to take one week off for vacation this year and it has to be a consecutive 7 days.   You have to work the rest of the 358 days.  You have until the end of the day to let me know what week you would like to have off.”

The week of New Years…4th of July…Labor Day…Thanksgiving…Christmas, etc

These are the first weeks that probably cross your mind as potential days to take off.  Would you go the common route and schedule your vacation around one of these holidays?  Or would you think outside the box?

Holidays are great times to use up vacation time.  You get to spend time with those whom your love.  You can get wrapped up in all of the holiday festivities and enjoy those precious moments with family and friends.

I pose an alternate to these typical weeks.  How about the week of March 14-20?  To most people, that might seam like some random week.  But, for those Sports Enthusiasts out there those dates might mean something more to you.

I argue that this could be one of the single greatest weeks of the year (that is if you love sports).  March 14-20 is the week prior to the official start of Spring.  I don’t know about you, but that’s when the golf clubs come out of storage and make there way back into the trunk of the car and start back up with golfing for the year.  In many parts of the country it is potential warm/nice enough to do that.

Secondly, March 16, St. Patrick’s Day.  Is there a better way to spend a holiday then partaking in the festivities associated with this Irish holiday?

Lastly, but most importantly, it is the start of MARCH MADNESS.  You can either stay at home or you can visit your favorite local establishment.  Enjoy frosty adult beverages, eat (in my opinion) the best the best type of food (Game Day snacks), and enjoy basketball the way it was meant to be played.  You get to watch college athletes duke it out and sometimes you get to see blowouts and sometimes you get to see upsets.

So I pose the question to you.  What week is better than March 12-20 to take off of work, if you exclude the typical holidays?
