Bulls Offseason Starts Tuesday
Tuesday our Chicago Bulls will face former Illini guard Deron Williams and his Utah Jazz. As of right now the struggling Bulls stand at 31-31, in the 8th spot 1/2 game above the Bobcats. Currently losers of four straight the Bulls have a tough road ahead.
Without Joakim Noah for the next few weeks and how they continue to let him come back into games and beat them I have come to the conclusion the season is over. Not only will they miss the playoffs but they might not even finish 9th.
I fully except them to lose Tuesday, a game I will be attending, and it will mark the closest to the 500 mark they will be for the rest of the season. At best they probably win only a handful of games.
So where do they go from here?
First is to rest Noah for the rest of the year.
Second is to start looking for a new coach. Nothing against Vinny because I think he can be a good coach but if the Bulls want to sign a big name free agent and compete for a title, VDN probably isn't going to be that guy. If Vinny was experienced and knew how to keep a timeout they might have very well beaten the Celtics last year in the playoffs. This season has seen them give up several big leads as well as getting blown out embarrassingly. That doesn't happen to well coached teams. Vinny would have been better learning under a proven NBA coach.
Thirdly is find out what you have. If the Bulls land their dream of landing a max contract player and maybe a secon tier guy they will have to fill out their roster with minium salary players. We already know Hakim Warrick might be someone they want to keep around but let's find out with rookie James Johnson and newly acquired Joe Alexander and Acie Law can help.
Finally is get a plan for the summer. This summer can't be screwed up. Pax and Gar Foreman better talk to Reinsdorf and make sure he is willing to pay the bill when it comes to signing these free agents. How much of a luxury tax will he be willing to pay? Cause Wade or Lebron if they happen to leave their current teams they won't come to a team with a tight pocketed owner.
Also let's not forget the draft they could find another piece to the puzzle.
My biggest concern is the ownership. Jerry screwed up the coaching search two summers ago and he might ruin this upcoming one as well.
If I was Pax, I would let it be known to Lebron, Wade and Kobe (don't forget Kobe can opt out of his contract) if they wanna come they are more then welcome. If none of them bite at first decide between Joe Johnson and Chris Bosh and push hard. Make the move quick and then use the contracts of Luol Deng or Kirk Hinrich to try and work a sign and trade to maybe convince Lebron, Wade and the guy who doesn't sign between Johnson and Bosh to come join Noah and Rose.
Who should be the number ONE target? Will Kobe, Lebron or Wade leave their teams or should they just focus on the second tier of Bosh, Johnson and Amare. It will be an interesting summer and it's time to start dreaming cause this season is done.
