What Nick Saban Has Brought to Alabama in Only Three Years
It is the afternoon of January 2, 2007. ย The Alabama football program is searching for a new coach and has been turned down by Rich Rodriguez. Tide fans are praying that the latest candidate, Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban,ย will become the next coach for the Crimson Tide.
The next day, Saban notified Alabama AD Mal Moore that he would accept the offer, and the Tide nation went crazy.
The Crimson Tide had not enjoyed much success since Gene Stallings left, and there was a constant rotation of new coaches in town.ย The football program had suffered through bad coaching, probation, bad recruiting, and little depth.
It is now March 2010, which means Saban has been the Head Coach for three years. The Tide now has some third-string players that could start for other SEC teams. During the 2009 season, the program received its first Heisman, its 13th national championship, and convincingly beat the proud Florida Gators.
The Tide is probably the deepest and most talented team in the country, and the Alabama fanbase is proud once again, especially with two victories in a row against Auburn.
Saban did all this in only three years. The guy knows how to recruit and coach well. He does a good job of motivating his team before games, and has put together a great coaching staff.ย Here are a few of the things that Saban has brought to the program.
Pride
With three consecutive victories against Tennessee and two against Auburn, Tide fans have regained their bragging rights.
Depth
I mentioned this earlier, but itโs incredible how much talent is on this team, even with the loss of so many players to the NFL.
Wins
I donโt think anyone would argue with me on this one. Bama hasnโt lost a single regular season game in the past two seasons.
Recruits
Since Saban has been coach, the 2008, 2009, and 2010 recruiting classes have been some of the best ever to sign the Crimson letters of intent.ย
So, Tide fans, before you get into your Alabama bed and dream Alabama dreams, close your eyes and thank the Lord that Nick Saban is your coach.
