Like I said in my editor's comment, it's perplexing how Oregon's overall rating is less than Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Northwestern(!!) and all these other junk Big 10 teams. Didn't they get the memo that the Big 10 is year in and out the most overrated and terrible conference? And the Ducks are rated the same as quarterback-less, defenseless junk UCLA and beneath the never-good Arizona Wildcats who stand at an 84?! Man, I want some of whatever EA is smoking.
Clearly there is some kind of everywhere-but-the-state-of-Oregon bias going on here. Oregon will be better than they were last year and with more depth at quarterback. Just you wait, EA Sports.

Isnt Oregon, a second tier team in the PAC 10, both quartback and running back-less without Dickson and Stewart? Wasn't that depth at quarterback exploited when Oregon lost their "heisman-winning' quarterback to an injury and quickly fell from the ranks of the nations elite in a year when USC was playing extremely poorly?? You're probably right though. No one wants Oregon to be good. EA Sports will probably eat their words when Oregon loses to Boise St in the Holiday Bowl. Good luck this year trying to get fans in the seats designing new jerseys each week.

How do they have UK worse than Louisville? That is ridiculous. UK has a better team than the Cards.

Yeah, my question for EA is this:
Two straight national title games after facing a creampuff non-conference schedule and not even a conference title game.
Two straight blowouts by SEC teams.
What makes Ohio State another jaggurnaut, only one of two in the game, even that in the same league as Georgia? Just my opinion though.

Paul Witten about 1 year ago
First off, dont complain about OSU's creampuff nonconference schedule as 2007 was the exception not the norm. Dont try and knock us until you schedule big dogs year in and year out (Texas and USC). Second, since the SEC media bias has already blinded you from ever thinking that Ohio State could be a decent team, it must be noted that literally everyone except two starters returns. It must be noted that Terrelle Pryor, a recruit with the POTENTIAL to become a superstar gives OSU another dimension which has been their downfall in the last two title games: The Buckeyes are unbelievably predicatable. Third, we have three legit Heisman contenders according to rivals.com--including a MONSTER named Beanie Wells who makes Knoshown look like a boy toy. Throw a quarterback that did well with no experience last year, a monster o line, a stingy defense and a chip on their shoulder, OSU has a real shot at a title run. and by the way, 38-24 isnt even close to a blowout---41-14 is but considering we were picked to finish third or fourth in the big ten, losing to preseason #2 isnt keeping me up at night.

You can take it to the bank that Florida State will always be insanely overrated on these games. Their 94 overall makes them tied with Florida, USC and Misssouri as the 4th best team on the game. And 99 Defense? EA's trying to make sure people keep buying their game.
Also, let's play "Which one of these doesn't belong?"
Teams rated 84 overall:
Alabama
Arizona
Auburn
Cincinnati
Michigan
Ole Miss
Purdue
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Ole Miss was the worst team in the SEC last year...and yet here they are at 84 overall. Which means they're better than Illinois, South Florida, and Boston College, just to name a few.
I'd buy this game every year even if they took the exact same game from last year and just updated the ratings and rosters...but you're right, there are head-scratchers like these with this game every year.

Ole Miss is considered by Pro Football scouts to be the most loaded team in the SEC when it comes to NFL Prototype players. That may or may not turn into W's, but from a pro talent level, their rating may be underrated.

These ratings are just horrible. Whoever did these ratings should be fired from EA.

Derek Stephens about 1 year ago
I see where you're coming from Will, but the game isn't about who will have the better team. Coaching, Game Strategy, etc. doesn't define a team rating.
In 2005, Ole Miss had the highest number of All-American Freshman in the country. Those freshman are now juniors, and if you take a look back into recruiting classes, Ole Miss has been consistently in the top 25 for the past couple years, when they were led by former Recruiter of the Year USC's Ed Orgeron. Orgeron was fired and Ole Miss is stockpiled with talent.
Consider my reply bias, because it is, but I believe as far as "talent" goes, Ole Miss isn't the odd one out in that category. If you also look in the past four years, since Ole Miss has went into a slump from being a mid-range SEC team, Ole Miss has competed in almost every game but never made it over the hump. I guarantee this year Ole Miss won't be one of the lower SEC teams, I assume they will be in a lower-tier bowl game with a proven SEC coach, Houston Nutt. Just my opinion though.
Edit Comment Cancel
Will Shelton about 1 year ago
On the field in real life I agree with you - I think Houston Nutt is a tremendous upgrade and the Rebels have a shot to make a bowl game. I just think the EA rankings, especially with so much unproven talent, aren't justified, especially when you look at those other teams rated there at 84.

I see where you're coming from Will, Ole Miss does have an abundance of unproven talent.
Hopefully, a year from now, we won't be looking at this and saying Ole Miss totally didn't belong. Or at least I hope lol.
I'm not really a Southern Miss fan, but I think they got a bit shafted, along with Mississippi State, an 8 win team last year who didn't lose much talent.
I'm glad EA doesn't give a hand out to Notre Dame every year though, like every other media member.
As for the game, I'm really excited about it this year. From what I heard from the people who played the demo for it, it's going to be another big upgrade from EA. EA should do something good since they really have an NCAA monopoly on NCAA Football and this upcoming year will have a monopoly on basketball as College Hoops 2K is being discontinued.

I'm bias high, but as the other guy stated, as far as "talent" goes, Ole Miss usually has the guys who can compete on the next level. Michael Oher (OL), Greg Hardy (DE), and Peria Jerry (DL), all have been in early mock drafts for round one of the 2009 NFL Draft. The defensive rookie in the NFL who led the entire NFL in tackles this year was from none other Ole Miss (Patrick Willis). As far as "talent" goes, there's always talent at Ole Miss, but turning that individual talent into team talent seems to be the problem the past four years. Maybe hiring a "proven" coach in the SEC will help since our talent is unproven.
Also, if we're talking about returning players, Ole Miss returns 8-9 starters on offense and 9 or 10 on defense, and the players we lost might be a good thing (Brent Schaeffer gives his starting job to Jevan Snead)

Why would WVU's offense be better than OSU? You lost your backfield in Schmitt and Slaton and also lost Reynaud at WR. OSU returns the whole offense except for Barton and a FB. If Devine and your WR's go off this year then maybe you'll catch up for next year's edition. OSU is loaded in the backfield with Wells, Saine, and Herron, all of which could start at WVU and maybe raise your points a couple. To top it off, you add a #1 recruit on offense which is normally around an 84 rating. I agree with White and Devine, WVU's offense should be pretty good. If you look at the teams by position the starting offense is quite comparable. It's the non-starters that make the difference. OSU gets higher recruits and has more talent on the field than WVU even though the actual starters may or may not be better. If you look at the starter ratings below, WVU averages an 84 rating while OSU averages 89. So the depth of OSU obviously makes the difference. You can't just look at the big names on teams and think the overall team offensive rating should be higher. You figure each team has around 30 players on offense in the game. If each player on OSU was only a couple points higher, that would even make a big difference overall. If it wasn't for White, Devine, and the two guards, the difference would even be more. Lastly, I believe Devine's rating is very generous. At 5'8" and 170 lbs. in college football you have to be very fast and agile to have a 90 rating.
WVU-
QB: Rating 97
HB: 90
FB: *66
WR: 85
WR: 83
WR: 78
TE: 71
LG: 90
RG: 90
LT: 88
RT: 86
C: 80
*The loss of Schmitt brings it down several points as it is. He was rated in the 90's.
OSU-
QB: 89
HB: 97
FB: 81
WR: 92
WR: 88
WR: 86
TE: 90
LG: 95
RG: 85
LT: 96
RT: 83
C: 90

the most ridiculous statement out of MR. WVU's comment was.. our defense is still stacked yeah we lost 7 stars but ...but... but.. YOU LOST 7 STARTERS!! your bench players/incoming freshman have to prove themselves you arent magically going to get a great rating... and lets see how that offense does especially pat white without slaton and schmidt taking the load off of him being such huge threats on the ground. you do still have devine tho which i will give you that might even be an upgrade over slaton.. but still needs to see how he handles being "the man" this year.

Mississippi State was 8-5 last year finishing 3rd in SEC West, yet they are rated lower than 4 of the 8 teams they beat last year and have the lowest rating in the SEC West by a long shot. Their defense ranked top 10 nationally last year in total yardage and opponents scoring, and almost all starters from last year are returning, so how can their defensive rating of 78 possibly be justified? 74 overall is a slap in the face of the MSU football program, give me a break EA!

The fact that Alex starts this thread with ripping the Bucks, then disappears is comical to me. I ask this question.. if the Buckeyes are not the best team, or the 2nd best team.. I beg you to tell me who is. It is not the Buckeyes fault other teams within the conferance can not recruit. Hence the reason we feel the need and desire to scheudle monster out of conferance teams. Again, 2007 was the exception. Home and Home against Texas.... home and home against USC int he next two years.. with Home and Home matchups with Miami U, and Tennessee to follow. When has any other big time team done that? Never. If you can not respect that.. respect this. In 2006/7.. the Buckeyes were run away #1 goign into the big game. You did not see any big ten team cry and campaign like Meyer did. Did Florida have a better team.. absolutly. They won. But.. the respect earned by Mich will be forever. Same for LSU... Another SEC team crying to its media bias begging for a shot. At no time to OSU, on the flip side.. at no time did they cry or campaign. Its about respect. The SEC may have a leg up from top to bottom but.. your not always judged by your weakest link. Where would Ole Miss fit in the Big Ten? My guess.. exactly where Iowa is. where would South Carolina rank? Right where Purdue is. where would Alabama Rank? Right with Minnesota. Where would Tennessee Rank.. equal to Penn State or Wisconsin. Every conferance has its Kentucky's and it's Indiana's. Stop hating on the Big Ten just because we don't have a Conferance Championship. Remember.. we can't because we don't ahve 12 teams and.. just as our teams have respect.. so does our conferance. Were not going to run out and sign Cincinnati to the Big Ten just to please the SEC conglomerate. We have class and we have Respect. Prepare yourself for a 3rd straight OSU title matchup... this time.. we see Georgia. Go bucks!

Shouldn't it be "this time..... we get to be beat down by Georgia, another superior opponent with better speed and coaching." ?
Honestly, how can any OSU fan say anything about deserving to be 99 overall, or talking about booking tickets to next years championship game? Have the last 2 seasons taught you guys anything?

And another thing, all OSU fans need to cut the crap with the "we made it to the championship game a year early."
It's funny, you win and your a dynasty and the Florida game was a fluke, you lose (cough cough....beat down....again) and it wasn't supposed to be your year anyways. Sorry, can't have it both ways.
