MMA, Brandon Vera, Anderson Silva, UFC, Light Heavyweight, Anthony Johnson, James irvin, Preview/Prediction

Once again it is time to leave predictions for the up and coming UFC event.

Dale Hartt vs. Shannon Gugerty

I have never seen either of these 2.  They have both finished all of the fights they won.  I am going to go with Gugerty by submission, because of the experience factor.

James Giboo vs. Brad Blackburn

Brad Blackburn by TKO.  I have never seen James Giboo fight.  So I am going to have to go with the more familiar fighter, and most of his wins come by KO/TKO.

Brodie Farber vs. Rory Markham

  • B/R Ticket Guide

I have only seen Brodie fight once in WEC years ago.  So I am going to have to go once again with the more familiar fighter Rory Markham, by TKO since that is how he wins most of his fights.

Anthony Johnson vs. Kevin Burns

Anthony Johnson by TKO

Hermes Franca vs. Frankie Edgar

Frankie Edgar by Unanimous decision.

Brandon Vera vs. Reese Andy

Brandon Vera by submission.  Vera will drop Andy and get on him working til Andy gives up his back and gets choked out.

Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin

I am going to do it.  I am going to go out on a limb here and call this one for Irvin by knock out/TKO.  Silva is used to fighting smaller guys, and Irvin will hit him with too much power knocking out the still pound for pound king.  Just because you are pound for pound the toughest doesn't mean you should go up a weight class especially 20 pounds that is a lot as far as power goes.

I know I will catch fire for my prediction on the Silva fight, but I just don't think he could be near as dominant against the bigger fighter.

  1. I have no idea how Silva will look at 205, but if he gets knocked cold by the Sandman, that's gonna be brutal for the UFC. They are heavily hyping him right now, almost to mythical proportions.

    1. Exactly 20 pounds is a lot different as far as strength goes. Irvin is definitely not a slouch on his feet neither.

  2. Can't wait to see if you are right. I am with you hoping that Vera wins and I don't care how he does it either. I wnjoy seeing Frankie Edgar fight as well. Hop Comcast treats me more kindly; I hate watching really exciting matches and feeling like I am dying all the while--Damn that cable company!

    1. Yeah I think Vera will have it pretty easy his first fight at 205. He was a beast at times in the heavyweight division, and now with the smaller oposition he should fair well. I am fairly confident that Edgar will do well against France, but I am not quite sure he can finish him.

  3. Edgar vs Franca should be a really good one. Man is there anything more exciting than seeing top flight 155s going at it? I cant wait for Huerta vs Florian (El Matador knocking K-Flo out!)

First off let me say I am a big Sandman fan. And I am not much of a fan of Silva.
And I am going with you Jason. I have been saying this ever since I saw the fight card. Bad bad opponent for Silva to fight in his first at 205. He should have got a fight with Houston Alexander or Sokoudjou. Or even Rashad Evans (I know Evans has Liddell coming up). I think Irvin is a bad fit for Silva. And way too much of a chance for a KO by the Sandman.

I asked this under another article but I was wondering what happens if Irvin does KO Silva? Does it put the Sandman deeper in the title hunt? Or does UFC just blame it on Silva having to move up a weight class? Irvin has been looking impressive as of late and I think he is one of the top 10 LHWs in the UFC.

    1. Sandman's in a lose-lose situation. Alexander also hits extremely hard, and Sokoudjou in top form was extremely dangerous. I think maybe like Machida or someone who isn't known for being a powerful striker.

  4. Wow, I am shocked at the prediction that Silva will get beat by Irvin. I am going with Silva through and through.

Edgar and Franca will be a pretty good fight. Might be one of the best of the night IMO.

    1. I am just not that confident that he can make that jump in weight and beat someone as dangerous as Irvin.

  5. Just FYI, Silva walks around in pretty solid condition at 220lbs. Cutting down to 185lbs just makes him explosive fast. If he has 20 less lbs to cut he wont be as snappy and fast but he will still be in amazing shape. Another thing to keep in mind is that Silva was a very large 185-er but at 205 is middle of the pack. Will this make a difference in his first 205lb fight? I don't think so. I still think accuracy and speed is going to reign over power and size.

    1. Just FYI, Silva didn't invent cutting weight. I'm saying he is a huge 185'er, and not so huge 205'er the strength he is used to having won't be there for him in the way it would against a smaller opponent. Silva could very well win this one, but I just don't buy into the whole Silva invincible fighting machine that everyone else does.

  6. The weight could be an issue, who knows, but he had no problem moving from 167 pound limit to 185 earlier in his career.

I agree that he's not invincible by any means, however, irvin does not have the fighting style to do it. Silva can outstrike anyone in MMA. You have to beat Silva on the ground. His fight against Takase is a true blueprint on how you beat anderson silva. Silva was dominated in that fight by a guy who was 4 - 7 - 1 in his MMA career.

I would like to go into a lot more detail but i'm actually in process of finalizing an article about how to beat silva so hopefully you will check it out when I get it posted.

    1. I wouldn't go as far to say that a man that has 10 out of 14 wins by KO/TKO, doesn't have the ability to beat Silva. He may just be unorthodox enough to do it. I never thought Jardine could hang with Chuck on his feet, but he did. It's just a little too much for me to swallow at the moment. I am really going to pull for Irvin here, because I want everyone to realize that Silva isn't invincible. By the way I'm sure that you will catch hell for that article. People will say things to you like just so you know he did tap out Henderson...Like that makes him infallable on the ground. Just a bit of a heads up.

  7. I officially eat my words here.
