Free Agent Frenzy: What does Ottawa need?
Almost three months after the Ottawa Senators were swept out of the first round of the playoffs, the question is still out there...what are Ottawa's needs?
A few days after the start of the NHL free agent frenzy, some people seem to think Ottawa hasn't done that much...but really they have.
Other than signing their restricted free agents, they are only one or two players away from being done.

With the signing of Alex Auld from the Boston Bruins, the Senators can say they have a great back up goalie for starter Martin Gerber.
Auld brings a great personality in the locker room, much better for the team than Ray Emery, and he's a solid goalie as well, who may even challenge for the number one spot at some point during the upcoming season.
The other signing was free agent Jarkko Ruutu at 3 years for 3.9 million, from the eastern conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Although it would have been nice to bring in Sean Avery, the Senators got the better bargain by not paying big money and getting a player that want, without having to deal with Avery's many off-ice distractions.
Now what do the Sens need?
One more blueliner and maybe one more veteran forward.
Why not Brendan Shannahan? He brings great leadership and can score in this league and maybe is that one player the Senators have always needed.
As well, word around the league is that Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Dan Boyle is on the trading block now. Hw would be a perfect fit in Ottawa.
Boyle grew up playing minor hockey in Ottawa, and as a local boy would do well replacing Wade Redden on the blue line with his strong puck moving skills, ability to log big minutes and strength on the power play.
I think two moves like this will make Ottawa that much better and again be a force in the very tough Eastern Conference.
What do you think?
