Fantasy Baseball: Beat the Streak, July 3
Todayโs selections are a tad bittersweet. They seem to be good picks because both guys are murdering Carlos Silva, the starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners today against the Detroit Tigers.
Please forgive me for being bitter, though, against the entire city of Detroit because of the Red Wings signing of Marian Hossa yesterday. Itโs not enough that they beat the Penguins for the Stanley Cup. Now theyโre signing the teamโs best available free agent.
Even so, letโs root for a couple of Tigers to beat up Carlos Silva today.

Carlos Guillen, Detroit Tigers
Guillen is hitting .529 in 32 at-bats against Silva. While the Tigersโ third baseman is only hitting .250 in his past 10 games, he should have no trouble breaking out of that mini-slump tonight against a pitcher whose opponentโs batting average is .310. He has three homers and four doubles against Silva lifetime.
Placido Polanco, Detroit Tigers
Polanco was voted by his peers as one of the most underrated players in the Majors in a recent Sports Illustrated poll. Heโs hitting .320 on the season, .351 in his past 10 games, and .438 (7-16) against Silva. In those 16 at-bats, Polanco has not struck out, so expect him to get five plate appearances and to put the ball in play five times.
