Monday Morning Musing With Me "The Big E": Leafs Nation Shocked!

Eric WarrenFeb 1, 2010

As I lay in bed yesterday morning, listening to my two wonderful kids rustling about in the living room watching television, and pondering the future of the Maple Leafs, the phone rang.

Now, being a little early on a Sunday morning, I would usually ignore it. For some reason, however, as my beautiful wife lay there sleepily, smiling, and cuddling my pillow, I got up to answer it.

What ensued, was an hour and a half of frantically searching web sites, while simultaneously listening to a Toronto-based sports radio station, and watching two different sports channels on two separate TVs.....in two separate rooms.

My pretty little wife wasn't as pretty as she was just moments earlier.

In a shocking move, six of the Toronto Maple Leafs players, who had skated in a loss the previous night to the Canucks, were now on their way out of town.

Six.

The lives of no less than six players and their families, turned completely inside out in less time than it takes to get a straight answer from a government official.

Wow!

Leafs Nation was in utter shock. While we were all picking our collective jaws up off of the ground, Brian Burke was signaling to the rest of the league that he may not be done.

That the Leafs were in fact "still open for business."

I won't delve into the trades, what I think they mean to either of the three teams, or whether I agree with the moves. Those topics have been covered "ad nauseam" over the last 25 hours.

Instead, I'll simply take this opportunity to wish all the former Leafs well in their new homes, and wait...for the other shoe to drop.
