Top 25 Ranked Teams Battle Head To Head

Isaiah JensenJan 30, 2010

The Georgetown Hoyas are playing host to the visiting Duke Blue Devils today and once again, we have yet another battle between two teams who are ranked in the top 25. Duke is currently ranked #6 with a 17-3 overall record.  On the other end of the court are the #11 ranked Georgetown Hoyas who enter today's game with a 15-4 record.

The difference maker for today's game could be that Duke is on the road. So far this season, Duke is 12-0 at home, 4-0 at neutral games, and a nasty 1-3 on the road. With Duke's poor ability to play on the road, and Georgetown's powerful offense at home, it is a great possibility that the #6 ranked Duke will fall today to the Georgetown Hoyas. At home this season, the Hoyas are an amazing 9-1.  Looking at these two teams and the way that they each play on the road, and at home, it is obvious that we very possibly could see an upset in today's matchup.

The key for the Duke Blue Devils in today's matchup is that they will need big games from their two big team leaders in Senior John Scheyer and Junior Kyle Singler. The biggest thing for these two young men is that they need to come up big, get their teammates involved, and make their jump shots and perimeter shots.  The biggest key for Duke today is to stop Junior guard Austin Freeman who is averaging 16 points per game.

The single most important factor for this game is that Duke is coming off of a nice three game win streak while the Hoyas are coming into today's game with a tough loss on January 25th suffered at the hands of the Syracuse Orangemen. Georgetown lost this game 56-73 in Syracuse. This game will be on the minds of the young men from G'Town and it could affect their play today.  However, because they are back at home today, and fighting to break into the top 10 ranked teams, they will be playing today with the goal and the mind set that they are going to get their upset win verse the #6 ranked Duke Blue Devils. Win or lose, it will be a tough and competitive game on both sides in today's game.
