Bowls or Madness? College Football Scores a Regular Season Victory
Well, at least college football is better than college basketball in at least one area.
The regular season.
As I watched the tail-end of the Wisconsin-Purdue basketball game Thursday night, I was crushed to see my Badgers lose to Purdue after center Keaton Nankivil lit up the Boilers with seven treys to help give the Badgers the lead with less than a minute to go.

While channeling my frustration into furiously pounding “Keaton + Nankivil + jersey” in my Google search engine in my hopes of scoring the threads before they were sold out, I came to the realization that the Badgers’ loss doesn’t mean much.
Maybe it costs Wisconsin a better seed in the Big Ten or NCAA Tournaments, but ultimately they will have to beat better teams than they are to get to the Final Four anyway. And let’s be honest people—unless the Badgers get to the Final Four, I’m not going to remember how they finished in 2010 five years down the road anyway.
And what if Wiskey loses to the Boilers in football in 2010? Well, if Bucky’s undefeated, it could cost them a chance to play for the national effing championship. That’s right. Season over. See you next year.
So while college football definitely needs to get the kinks worked out for its postseason, it does have a much more exciting regular season than collegiate hoopsters. One loss can kill your season.
But I’ll take that 65-team basketball mob scene every spring over the gridiron’s Bowl-A-Rama.
Is it March yet?
