2010 WWE Royal Rumble Pay Per View Match Predictions

Travis SmithAnalyst IIJanuary 28, 2010

The 2010 Royal Rumble event is this Sunday night and since we are so close to the event, I feel like it’s only fair for me to give you my match predictions and previews for this Sunday night.

WWE Women's Title Match: Champion Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James

These two divas have been at war ever since Mickie was traded to SmackDown! The WWE has realized that Mickie is thinking about leaving the company in order to start up her own country music singing career. Mickie has been abused verbally by the WWE's top divas about her weight and her look being known as "Piggy James". Now McCool and Mickie have had several great matches in the last couple of months and this looks to be the end of this rivalry so if that’s so then my money would have to be on Michelle McCool because Mickie won't be in the company much longer and they feel like McCool can still contribute to the company as women’s champion so my pick is Michelle McCool.

ECW Title Match: Champion Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson

This has to be one of the most unpredictable one on one matches to predict in a long time, Christian has been champion since July and has had several classic title matches since he became ECW champion. With all of those great bouts and such, people may believe that now his time as the champion is over this Sunday. Ezekiel has been in a crappy storyline with Kozlov for the last two or three months but when the WWE decided to have him win that big battle royal three weeks ago, that gave Jackson's character a huge boost to the fans as a legit contender for the title. With William Regal in his corner and his great look, this maybe the time for him to become ECW Champion. In my opinion, I think Christian will retain the title because Ezekiel is not ready to be ECW Champion, I do believe that we may see Christian lose the title after the pay per view but for this Sunday, Christian retains in a short match.

WWE Title Match: Champion Sheamus vs. Randy Orton

This will be the first "heel vs. heel" match for the title since 2001 when Kurt Angle wrestled Triple H for the title. Now this match up has a young champion against an experienced challenger almost like it was in 2001. Sheamus has been on somewhat of a roll since he won the title last month by destroying other stars in squash matches but he has to go against quite possibly one of the best WWE Champions that this industry has ever seen in Randy Orton. The rumored plans right now are to have a Sheamus vs. Triple H title match at WrestleMania plus Orton has been champion several times in the last two years so I have to believe that Orton's title moment will not happen this Sunday, we may even see Legacy cost Orton the gold but overall, I don't see Sheamus losing the title at the Royal Rumble.

World Heavyweight Title Match: Champion Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio

This match is a classic "David vs. goliath" type of match up when the "Deadman" takes on the ultimate underdog Rey Mysterio. These two guys had a stellar match up several weeks ago for the title with it ending in a no contest; I can't see that happening again. Undertaker has been champion since October and with everything being rumored and such, I can honestly see a title change but history made prevail again. The World Heavyweight Championship has never changed hands in this pay per view since its debut in 2003. I know people want to say Undertaker because of the hype of another HBK vs. Taker match at Mania but I am going to call for an upset and say Rey Mysterio wins the World Heavyweight Title.

Royal Rumble Match

Here we go with the main event known as the Royal Rumble match. This match has produced many great winners and this event always has it surprises so it’s extremely hard to predict a winner for this match. You could guess anybody because this rumble has the look of being a surprise this year but if I had to pick a winner, it would be Triple H because of the plans for the WWE Title at WrestleMania.

Now I would love to hear your predictions and thoughts on this but most of all, please buy the pay per view because I have this funny feeling that we may see the best Royal Rumble event in history.
