Who's The Better Champion?
Lets talk championship superfights and moving up in weight to do it. Who would have the best chance of moving up to take the belt off the champion in the next weight class.
Starting at the lowest weight we have BJ Penn. This is the easiest scenario since we have seen it twice and know the outcome. As much as Penn will talk and try to convince everyone that he can beat GSP, it's just not going to happen. Not only for the fact that after the first fight between them was very close and the second was not close at all, but based on the fact that Georges is getting bigger, stronger, faster, and more dominating. I see about a 10% chance of BJ taking the WW belt from Pierre.

Now for the aforementioned GSP. What are the chances that he could take the MW belt from The Spider. I see this as a close fight that could go either way. GSP has stated that to move up he has been adding weight and won't go up until he is a the right weight for him. So lets pretend that time is here. In my opinion GSP has a very good chance of beating Anderson. He is not going to be baited into a boxing match the way Forrest was and he would be coming into the fight with better takedowns and wrestling than anyone Silva has faced. I think the fight sits at an even 50/50 outcome with no overall advantage to either fighter.
In Anderson Silva's case we have already seen him move up twice and humiliate LHW fighters, one of which is a former champ. But while that is the case the fact that he destroyed Forrest doesn't hold as much merit as it's made out to be. Anderson might be a good size for LHW but he hasn't been hit by someone as powerful as the division has to offer. The hardest hitting MW's are probably not as strong as the big hitting LHW's. While i think Anderson would beat almost all the fighters in the next weight class it would not come without problems. We have to take Machida out of the mix since they have stated they will never fight each other. So lets consider for the sake of argument that Shogun holds the belt. Now that Shogun has returned to the fighter of a few years ago and is seemingly ready to live up to his hype this would be a great fight. Maybe even one for the ages but i think Shogun(if he is injury free and on top of his game) would be too much for Silva to handle. Not that Anderson couldn't win this fight but I'm putting this one at a 40-50% chance of Silva walking in and taking the belt.
Now for the LHW champ Lyoto Machida. This discussion is pretty self explanitory. Ther is almost no chance barring a miraclr punch, kick, slip, injury, of him knocking out or taking down Brock Lesnar. And even less of a chance of getting up from underneath him. This one is in the 1-5% range.
I'm sure i will have some people saying how can GSP have a better chance of moving up and winning than Anderson. Common sense would lead you to believe that each move up should be a better %. I'm also factoring in the fact that moving up means that you are really not cutting much weight and your opponent is. GSP weighs in at about 190 and taking off a few pounds would not effect his performance while Anderson is said to weigh about 215 and that means about a 30 pound cut every time he has fought, which although hasn't seemed to have an effect him he has been fighting guys who are doing the same. In my opinion Anderson is a LHW fighter fighting a MW. besides the whole point of this is too get opinions and debates, because I'm not so naive to think that no one will ever disagree with my thoughts.
