Up Against The Wall: Kentucky Suffers Season's First Loss
It is still relatively early in the 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball season. Still, there was only one undefeated left in the land. A team that was riding the wave of youth, but the suddenly ran into a wall in South Carolina.
John Wall is without a doubt the best freshman in all of College Basketball, and arguably the best ball player in the land. That is great, but he could not help his Cats stay perfect for one more night.
The star player of the night was one that you may not ave heard of. Devan Downey dropped 30 points on the Wildcats as he helped his Gamecocks shock the world.

The 30 point game by Downey may seem like a surprise, but to the SC (and that is South Carolina) faith-full, it was nothing but expected. This is the fourth time since entering conference play that he has hit the thirty point mark. He is the SEC's leading scorer for a reason!
Overall this was a very close game. Statistically, both teams struggled from beyond the three point line, but in a close game, free throws often propel a team to victory.
While five might not seem like a lot of points, in a game won only by six point, the five extra free throws that the Cocks got, were just enough!
For Kentucky, DeMarcus Cousins did his best to lead the team, as he had a great 27 point 12 board night, but it wasn't enough.
Kentucky will look to rebound later this week against a touch Vanderbilt team, while the Cocks will look to ride this momentum as they will take on Georgia (both games 1/30).
