Favre Throws Interception To Send the Game Into Overtime; Saints Win.

Brandon GriffinJan 24, 2010

28-28. That was the score after 4 quarters in New Orleans Sunday Night.

Brett Favre threw 2 INT's in regulation, those along with the Vikings 3 lost fumbles really kept the Saints in the game.

The turnovers as a whole were killer, but Favre's second interception kept the Vikings from having a shot at a game winning field goal. It came with less than 20 seconds left, the Vikings in Saints territory with a timeout left.

It was 3rd down, Brett Favre drops back, looks and no one is open. He then rolls right, has room to run, but throws the ball across his body towards the middle of the field at the last second. Tracy Porter makes the catch and returns the ball close to midfield. The Saints had two plays and no timeouts, and got nothing accomplished in the last 15 seconds.

The game was now headed into overtime and the Saints won the toss. Of course, they did elect to receive the ball as the fans in the Superdome went crazy knowing that all they need is a score of any sort to go to the Super Bowl and make Brett Favre's last pass of the season and maybe his career an interception.

The Saints started off slow and picked up a first down or two. The crowd was not impressed as the highest scoring offense in the league was taking it slow. Then as they passed into Viking territory it was 4th and inches. The Saints go for it as Pierre Thomas flies high over the line and picked up the first down.

The Saints now have first and 10 on the Vikes 42 yard line. This did not mean that they had an inside shot to win on a field goal at all. Remember, the Saints got rid of one kicker for being too inaccurate and Hartley did not seem much better. All of this was against them and the fact that the field goal percentage of all kickers in the playoffs was below 60%, that includes the goose egg Nate Kaeding put up.

Hartley now walks up with a 40 yard attempt to send the Saints to their first Super Bowl. The Vikings called timeout to try and ice him, but it didn't work. Brett Favre stared up in awe as he watched the ball fly right down the middle of the uprights. The fans went nuts, which was a gracious sound knowing this city is still recovering from the devastation of hurricane Katrina. That was a small thought on the minds of fans as the team rushed the field.

The Saints had won in New Orleans and were ready to go to Miami and face the Colts.

In a sport that it is claimed for defense to win championships the Super Bowl will consist of two of the most prolific offenses in the league.

Who will win? Who will show up as an under-rated superstar, and who will fall flat as their team loses the biggest game of their season and maybe their careers?

Mark me as a favorite writer and I will tell you next weekend!

Thank you and have a good night.
