Hulk Hogan Saving TNA

Matthew BeecheyJan 24, 2010

Ok Im the first to say it.  I do have a method to my madness though (ooooohhh yeaaaah!)

I watched my very first cover to cover episode of TNA when the big fella debuted and I must say I did find it interesting and fun to watch.  Now I have heard how Hulk and Easy Eric are going to turn it into WCW 2 but I don't buy it.  First off, WCW had a huge bankroll at its disposal.  Despite Dixie Carters ability to get at some money this company is in growth mode and is going to have to earn every penny and ratings boost. So far i've liked what i've seen.  Now I have read other articles on how Hogan has brought in his buddies and it ruining the show but I digress.  Hogan knows alot of wrestling people Eric knows marketing and using test markets.  despite what most people say Eric Bischoff is a very intelligent businessman.  If you read his book "Controversy Creates Cash" you can instantly see a business mind at work.  Plus with any growing company that is trying to push you need to follow a working formula and see what talent passes through the formula.  So you may see some turnover ( I love you Knobbs but you cant wrestle a lick anymore)  This will work out for TNA however

There are 3 things going there way right now.  Firstly, Hulk has brought attention to them. Every article written by all us wrestling geeks gets someone's attention who isn't. Ill take my wife as an example.  When I got home form work that first Monday he debuted she said "Hulk will be on TV tonight!"  After hearing that I expected to wake up and the whole day be a dream ( which would of been a bummer because it was a good day)  She NEVER talks about wrestling and I mean NEVER.  She did come to appreciate the big man though through Hogan Knows Best.  So 2 people who never watched TNA watched it that night.  She also commented on how it was better than WWE which she says is the same every week.  I make her watch it on Mondays when we go to bed...gotta love her.  This brings me to my next point

Numero 2.  The one thing that Hogan has got going for him is maneuverablity.  TNA wants to grow. They want to experiment. They are small.  This means the red tape and corporate structure that the WWE used to take down WCW is now reversed.  The instant WWE became a public company the structure changed.  When you have shareholders to answer too maneuvering quickly becomes difficult.  This is why every show is so regimented. Look at when interviews are placed every Monday night.  Its very regimented.  For a casual observer like my wife to see it its very noticeable to a everyday fan.  TNA has the opportunity to operate more freely.  This will help them grow and show a different and more exciting product.

Number 3 and this is a big one.  Its not WCW. The minute that Time Werner and AOL merged WCW was dead.  They were trying to build a family brand and wrestling did not fit.  Further to that some of the dumbest humans alive ran that company and really it became the laughing stock of wall street.  RED TAPE kills business that has to adjust to changing fan base, talent and really what's popular in the world at that time.  Wrestling is a microcosm of all those things.  This reason alone with Hogan and Bischoff on board will transform TNA to a top player.   Let's be honest its what we want.  No wrestling fan alive can handle the WWE pushing the same matches over and over again.  Time will tell but I think history will repeat....only this time with a much happier ending for TNA.  Either way we the fans win
