Five Star Marcus Lattimore Chooses Auburn?

Bobby StephensJan 23, 2010

   Update:

I have been told by my sources that Lattimore finally called the Auburn coaches and said it's South Carolina. I wish him nothing but the best but really feel when he runs out on the field at Jordan Hare next year he is going to have regrets. I think our coaches did a great job on this kid but in the end the pressure was too much.

Everyone seems to have an expert opinion on the future of Marcus Lattimore's football career. Talk to someone from South Carolina and they will tell you, "He needs to be loyal to his home state and help be the future of our team." Talk to someone from Auburn and your sure to hear how Lattimore along with Michael Dyer are destined to be the next Felix Jones and Darren McFadden.

Let's look at this like a sweat pouring, eye bleeding, heavy weight fight. In one corner you have the Auburn Tigers aka "Running Back U" the undisputed champion of NFL running backs with a resume that is equivalent to Bill Gates applying for a job at Staples. In the other corner we have USC whose running backs get more action running in the plays than running the actual ball. Is it that simple, should he simply pack his bags and start a magical 4 hour journey to the plains of Auburn?

Like the great Lee Corso says, "Not so fast my friend." You see Marcus Lattimore seems to be something more than a five star stud, he seems to be deeply involved in church and a huge family guy. Ask any USC fan about his recruiting decision and your sure to hear, "He would not be announcing his decision at church and inviting the public if Auburn was his choice." Isn't church a place for forgiveness? Wouldn't church be much safer than standing up at his school with the "I'm going to be a Auburn Tiger" speech?

It's true, Auburn is stacked at running back. He would be guaranteed nothing going to a school that has so many active running backs and two more big time recruits already committed. On the other hand, Auburn has proven they will run a two back system and he (Lattimore) has to feel he is one of the top two if not the best back on any team. So I'm thinking competition doesn't bother him. Advantage Auburn

What about the limited number of carries that Lattimore would receive being in the Auburn backfield? Good question, This brings us to the football mentality of "The Ol' Ball Coach". Spurrier has always been a pass first, run second (if the tight end is not open) football coach. Do you realize that South Carolina had a running back (Miles) this year that averaged 5.5 yards per carry? How many rushing yards do you think he averaged  per game? I will give you a hint, under 49 and above 47.  Advantage Auburn

I could go on for hours with examples of why Marcus Lattimore should be an Auburn Tiger, but i will spare you. Truth is the extra three hours driving time for his family and friends to get to Jordan Hare Stadium is nothing compared to the opportunities Marcus will receive from a university known to make great running backs  not only in college but also the NFL.
