Cashman Denies He's Waiting For Damon
Today, while speaking with Jim Bowden on his XM radio show , former Yankee Jerry Hairston Jr . said that the Yankees didnโt make him an offer because theyโre waiting for outfielder Johnny Damon โs price to drop.
โBrian Cashman's going to get mad at me,โ Hairston said, โbut Yanks didnโt make me offer because heโs waiting on Damon's price to come downโ
Itโs an interesting idea, that I even brought up the other day , but I donโt see how Hairston could know for sure that the Yankees are waiting on Damon. Cashman isnโt going to keep the entire media in the dark just to go and tell a utility infielder who he isnโt retaining whatโs really going on.

Naturally, Cashman denied that this was true. He told Ken Davidoff of Newsday that Hairston was โrightโ that the Yankees never made him an offer, but โnot rightโ that it was because of Damon. But what did you really expect Cashman to say? Hairston is unlikely to have any insider information and even if it were true, heโs not just going to give up any leverage he has gained against Damon.
