I don't think many wrestling fans will disagree that wrestling has been in horrible shape for quite some time. That being said I recently asked myself what is wrong with wrestling. I came to the conclusion that wrestlers have stopped passing things onto one another and we are now stuck with a generation of wrestlers that are either good on the mike or good in the ring but there are very few wrestlers that are good at both. (I also think the matches are too short and the wrong people are the top guys but I'm not going there in this article.) I am not saying there are not exceptions to this rule (Orton, Jericho and Edge) but back when I was a die hard fan the wrestlers that weren't good on the mike and in the ring were the exception. Wrestlers also passed everything onto one another (passing the torch) so the business stayed successful and everyone made money. Now it seems the wrestlers are worried about only themselves and not the business. If you question this take a look at the Randy Orton/Kofi Kingston situation. On live TV Randy Orton chose to demoralize Kingston over a botched move or spot. Who wins from this...absolutely nobody. Randy looks like a jerk, Kofi looks like an idiot and my point on wrestlers of today only caring about themselves is made.
My point is that wrestling needs to be saved before the business becomes even worse than it has been. My solution to the problem is...Shawn Michaels. Now I can hear all you fans wanting the younger generation of wrestlers to take over being outraged at this suggestion but hear me out. I think Sheamus and others may be a good champions someday but not now...they are not ready. Sheamus basically gets no reaction right now as the champion. It's not because he is not doing a good job it's because people are not buying him as champion. The torch needs to be passed to him along with alot of the other younger wrestlers and they have alot to learn. So here is how Shawn Michaels can help save wrestling.
In my opinoin Shawn is the total package both in the ring and on the mike. I say have Shawn win the belt hopefully sooner rather than later. Once Shawn has the belt he can work title matches with all the upcoming young talent. Shawn still puts on the best matches going today even at his age. The one thing for sure about Shawn is if you put him in the main events at PPVs he will give you five star matches everytime. This is a win-win for everyone. The younger wrestlers hopefully put their egos in check and learn how to work in the ring and on the mike. We get a great series of five star title matches on PPV which will help the business and satisfy us fans. Right now there is a wrestling "throwback" thing going on with Bret Hart coming back and the Hulk Hogan crew taking over TNA so this will also capitalize on that. Shawn has also been a loyal employee of the WWE forever, he is a guaranteed Hall of Famer and he has had the best matches since I can remember. He deserves one last title run and this will give him one great platform to end his career. The young guys will only be better for this and by the time this run is over they will all be elevated in everyones eyes due to the quality of matches they had with Shawn. Once Shawn has worked with these guys ring work and mike skills they will hopefully have learned a ton and now they will all be better for it.
The end comes when whoever is chosen to take the torch and run with it beats Shawn in a five star retirement match. Shawn walks off into the sunset with his head held high and the WWE is now much better off ready to take on the future. This exact scenario has worked in the past and it will work again. Please Vince wake up...your savior is right in front of you!
