FA Cup Weekend Preview- Villa Targeting Both Cups
The FA Cup Fourth Round kicks off this weekend with Carling Cup Finalists Aston Villa face Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley travels to Reading in a repeat of last year's playoff final at Wembley.
Burnley go to Reading on Saturday. The clarets have only taken 1 pt. away in the league but they are also known as cup specialists thanks to last year's league cup run.
Burnley will be looking to repeat their performance and advance to the next round.
Villa recently defeated Blackburn 6-4 in the Carling Cup semi-final second leg and they are now in the final.
Manager Martin O'Neill hailed a "sensational" performance from Villa midfielder James Milner in the second leg of the Blackburn clash.
Even if Villa don't get a top 4 finish, their performances in cups may allow them to get a spot in the europa league play-off round, though I don't think they'd be satisfied with another europa league spot, they want more.
Giant-killers Leeds, who knocked out Man U, face Tottenham. Tottenham will be looking to improve on their performance vs. Liverpool.
With Manchester United and Liverpool out, many are picking Chelsea to win the FA Cup. Chelsea face a tricky test away to second-division Preston North End.
Newcastle face West Brom in a battle of two teams that were relegated last season. Newcastle have hit a slump in form lately which West Brom will be looking to take advantage of.
Other games on Saturday include two all-premier league ties, Everton vs. Birmingham & Sunderland vs. Portsmouth.
All Championshipclashes include Cardiff-Leicester, Derby-Doncaster, & Southampton-Ipswich.
Bolton face Sheffield United, Wigan face Notts County, Wolves face Crystal Place, and Fulham take on League Two Side Accrington Stanley.
On Sunday, Arsenal face a tricky test to the fortress of Stoke's Britannia Stadium.
Manchester City will be looking to make Mancini's promise to win 4 cups and they will be hoping to advance against Scunthorpe on Sunday.
