Calipari's Clutch, Expect the Best for Years to Come

Bowe FertigJan 21, 2010

The University of Kentucky knew all too well that bringing John Calipari to their program would mean great things to come.

Kentucky, as well as Calipari, also understood that Calipari’s previous troubles and accusations would all go away, because when you win all else is forgotten.

I haven’t heard anything but good things about Calipari lately, because his team his 18-0 and soon to be the No. 1 team in the country.

Currently, John Calipari is the hottest coaching name in college basketball because he wins and brings the best young talent to his program.

Calipari is second amongst active coaches with more than 10 years of coaching experience with a .761 winning percentage (445-140 overall record), trailing only UNC's Roy Williams.

By coaching the best young freshmen of the past few years (Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, John Wall), Calipari will soon have the top high school players knocking at his door step.

If you were considered to be the top player coming out of high school, how could you pass up this offer?

  • Play basketball for the top college basketball program under a coach who gets the best college freshmen players ready for the NBA.
  • Play in a competitive SEC Conference.
  • Play under the 15-year contract that the SEC signed with ESPN. Now you can display your skills on ESPN more than any other college basketball program in the country.

There is more to it, but could you pass up the offer?

John Calipari might just redefine the Adolph Rupp Era (an 18-0 start took Rupp 23 seasons to first do it) if he coaches long enough, because his name, along with the title of head coach at Kentucky, is like Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson. When two things are that great, there’s no need for change.

He’s already coaching for the best program in the nation and after coaching three years in the NBA, Calipari’s 72-112 record in the pro ranks should remind him of the struggle of coaching older players.

The only thing missing from Calipari’s trophy case is a NCAA Championship and what better place to win one?

This could very easily be the team Calipari wins his first NCAA Championship.

He has the best college player in the country, two big men that can get double-doubles day-in-and-day out, and the speed to run the opposition out the gym.

Turnovers will be a crucial part in Kentucky’s success this year, but don’t expect anything to turnover with Kentucky’s program as long as Calipari is coaching it.
