Have The Suns 'Hit A Wall'?

Vincent YinJan 18, 2010

The Phoenix Suns were off to a great start proving that they are a great team once again after the long break without the playoffs. They were playing better than ever and almost every Suns fan would have been satisfied with their performance.

But it seems the Suns have 'hit the wall' earlier than expected. Hitting a wall is a term usually used by athletes who cannot go any further or have reached their limits. It certainly seems that has been the case for the championship-less team as they have suddenly declined after a few impressive wins against the league's powerhouses at the start of the season.

Now, Suns fans cannot be proud of the Suns or even be satisfied with their performance. They have managed to lose by blow outs and game winners because they seem to have too many problems.

One problem for the Suns would be rotation, before tonight against the Grizzlies, the Suns used the same line up since the start of the season with Steve Nash, Jason Richardson, Grant Hill, Amar'e Stoudemire and Channing Frye. This seemed to work out well until teams started figuring out our rhythm and plan after half time. Our starting line up consisted of little to no defense at all, which was alright at the start of the game when we were to build momentum but after half time we used the starting line up to defend our lead. How does that even work? We should utilize our bench and put some defense into our team heading onto the court after half time.

Another problem with the Suns would be the lack of effort late in games when they are down. I don't know if people have realised but there is only one person who tries late in games and that is Steve Nash. He is the one who brings the ball up the court and is the one who takes the three ball, but that's not a problem, the problem is that the rest of the team don't do anything at all. They always expect Nash to make the shot but sometimes he misses and that's when we need people to rebound. Sometimes Nash gets stuck but nobody seems to care, they think Nash can easily shoot over a double team, which quite frankly he probably can't when he is stuck in the corner.

Injuries hasn't really become a problem besides Leandro Barbosa, he hasn't seemed to pick his game up yet and I don't think he will this season but I do believe the Suns can go deep into the playoffs as a healthy team if they can just get a trade to fix this team up because right now they barely seem anything more than an average team that is hovering in and out of the top 8. Let's face it, the Suns are only two games ahead of the Grizzlies, who pretty much not only beat them but embarrassed them on national television today.

What would it really take to lift this team above expectations? Pretty much a blockbuster trade that will deal Jason Richardson packaged along with Channing Frye or Leandro Barbosa.

We would also need to step up our game and start playing basketball and start defending our lead for once.
