Bolts Shocked By Sanchez and Company
When the San Diego Charger welcomed the New York Jets to Qualcom Stadium the Chargers had all the momentum winners of their last 10 games. The San Diego Chargers hadn't lost since week 6 versus the Denver Broncos in a 34-23 loss at Qualcom. The game started out the way most people would expect neither team could do much in the 1st San Diego got close but Nate Kaeding missed a 36yd field goal. In the 2nd Quarter Phillip Rivers began to mount a drive connecting with his big TE Antonio Gates for a 23yd gain. Two plays later Rivers hit Wilson his backup Fullback for a 13yd TD. The Jets struggled to keep many drives alive. They finally picked up their first 1st down of the afternoon with 8:58 to go in the 2nd Quarter but that drive stalled also at halftime it was the San Diego Chargers with the lead 7-0.
When the 3rd Quarter began the Jets came out with a balanced attack and began moving the football down the field the Jets were able to drive to the SD 26 were the drive stalled Jay Feely was able to tack on a 46yd FG making this a 7-3 ballgame with the Chargers still in the lead. While most people thought the better defense between the two teams was San Diegos but the Jets defense stepped up and was able to pick off Rivers inside the San Diego 20 yd line setting up a Dustin Keller TD giving the Jets the lead for the first time. The Chargers were forced to punt on the very next drive. The Jets once again were able to mount a drive putting the ball in the hands of their young rookie Shonn Greene who broke off a 53 yd TD with just over 9 minutes left to play in the game. Rivers was able to scored TD up the middle with just over a minute to play in this game making it a 17-14 ballgame the Jets still with the lead. The onside kick was not successful and the San Diego Chargers were in shock as they lose on their home field 17-14 Loss to the Jets and our eliminated from the playoffs .
