Will Everton Keep Landon Donovan After His 10-Week Loan Is Up?

Andrew JordanJan 17, 2010

One of the greatest players in United States Soccer history, Landon Donovan has been a player that was able to succeed for the US National Team and for the Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS, but was never able to succeed outside of America.

During his career, Donovan played for both Bayer Leverkusen and for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga, but was never able to have any success in Germany.

But no matter what, Donovan was able to continue to succeed in Major League Soccer with the Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes, and it always appeared that he would never be able to succeed overseas.

But with the 2010 World Cup coming up, Donovan decided to test the foreign waters again and this time moved to the English Premier League to play for Everton, who were in the middle of a major injury crisis with many of their best players out.
With this loan, Donovan would join his American teammate Tim Howard at Goodison Park and would try to get Everton back into European qualification.
On Jan. 9, Donovan played his first ever match with Everton against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium just four days after joining the Toffees, and made his mark known early in the match with an assist to Leon Osman off a corner in what turned out to be a 2-2 draw against an Arsenal side that was third in the Premier League table.
And now on Jan. 16, Donovan played in his second match for Everton and his first at his new home in Goodison Park against a Manchester City side that did not lose since the appointment of new manager Roberto Mancini last month.
But Everton put on a show for the Goodison Park faithful as they dominated Man City and won 2-0 and were once again playing like the team that they were for the last several seasons.
Currently, Everton find themselves in 10th place in the league table, which is much better than being bordering the relegation zone, which they were last month at this time.
Through his first two matches, Donovan is showing everyone that he can compete in the English Premier League and is also making a significant impact as Everton are now just eight points away from rival Liverpool for the final Europa League spot.
So now with Everton's recent great play with Landon Donovan, should Everton allow Donovan to walk away after his ten week loan is up, or try to keep him at Goodison Park for the future?
