2010 Top 15 First Basemen Rankings

Ryan LesterJan 14, 2010

Here’s an early look at the 2010 first base rankings.

1.  Albert Pujols

Simply the cream of the crop.

2.  Mark Teixeira

Could knock in even more Yankees with the Curtis Granderson addition. I expect a better average in 2010.

3.  Ryan Howard

His average didn’t kill you last year, but it was still enough to keep him out of the No. 2 slot.

4.  Miguel Cabrera

Better average than Tex and Howard, but fewer RBI opportunities.

5.  Prince Fielder

He actually had better numbers than Howard or Tex, but  I think he has a harder time replicating those numbers.

6.  Justin Morneau

His numbers have varied the past four years, but as a whole have been solid. I expect something around the average of those four years with Morneau hitting around .290 with 30 HRs and 120 RBI.

7.  Adrian Gonzalez

I’d like him more if he got traded, but he still should give you around .280 with 38 HRs and 110 RBI.

8.  Kevin Youkilis

I’d like Youk because he gives you a nice average and is 3B eligible. He doesn’t give you many HRs, but he should reach 100-plus RBI.

9.  Joey Votto

I’m going with the potential pick here. I think Votto is such a pure hitter that 30 HRs and 100 RBI should come naturally in his third full season. His batting average should be a plus.

10.  Mark Reynolds

I know he’s a third baseman, but he has first base eligibility. I don’t expect him to match the gaudy numbers he posted last year, but he should provide plenty of pop and a fair amount of SBs.

11.  Lance Berkman

The reliable Berkman had a down year with 25 HRs and 80 RBI. I’m betting he’s more likely to bounce back to the 30-plus HR, 100-plus RBI season that we’ve grown accustomed to than to continue his decline.

12.  Kendry Morales

The fluke factor comes into play with Morales, but I’m confident he’s worthy of a starting 1B gig on fantasy teams even without Vladimir Guerrero and Chone Figgins in their lineup.

13. Adam Dunn

His average didn’t kill you last year and he’s one of the steadiest HR hitters in the league.

14.  Carlos Pena

You’ll have to live with his batting average, but he should hit a ton of HRs and drive in a bunch of runs.

15. Billy Butler

I think Butler is on his way towards breaking out big time. I could see him hitting over .300 with 25 HRs and 100 RBI.
