The top 10 WWE Superstars are superstars that made a impact in 2009. The reason Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker are not mentioned is because both of them took a 4 month break after Wrestlemania. Before we start the slideshow, I would like to give a few honorable mentions to The Big Show, Edge, The Legacy, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker.
10. John Morrison
John Morrison is The Friday Night Delight, The A-Lister, and The Guru of Greatness. 2009 was definitely a good year for John Morrison. 2009 was the year that John Morrison went from good to great. His face turn may have been one of the smartest moves in the WWE. John Morrison also received his first ever World Championship shot in 2009. Although I wasn't happy Morrison lost his Intercontinental Champion to Drew Mcintyre in their first match together, Morrison was still a great Intercontinental Champion.
9. Kofi Kingston
Boom... Boom... Boom! Kofi Kingston has been on a roll lately. Although Kingston was given his push in late 2009. Kofi Kingston was a great United States Champion succesfully defending it numerous times. Everything started at Bragging Rights when Kofi Kingston interfered in the one hour anything goes ironman match between John Cena and Randy Orton. Orton attacked Kingston and Kingston attacked Orton. This went back and forth until Madison Square Garden when Kofi's push really started. Kofi Kingston boom dropped Orton into an announcers table. Kingston turned from a fun loving superstar to a down to business wrestler.
8. Christian
Christian made his return on ECW. Now as mad as I was knowing that Christian's talent was being wasted on ECW. I now realize that Christian had a great 2009. He became ECW champion 2 times. He successfully defended his ECW Championship more then any other Champion in 2009. Christian definitely raised the prestige of ECW brand itself. I hope Christian gets drafted to Smackdown and Raw where he can really show what hes made of.
7. Rey Mysterio
Ah... Rey Mysterio, The Master of the 619. Rey Rey had an awesome year. He beat JBL in 21 seconds at Wrestlemania 25 to win his first Intercontinental Championship. Mysterio embarked in an awesome feud with Chris Jericho. Mysterio then feuded with former best friend Batista. In his last match of 2009 he faced The Undertaker for the World Championship and had a fantastic match there. I also want to point out that Mysterio didn't take a hiatus from the WWE at all in 2009 and was also never seriously injured.
6. Jeff Hardy
The Charismatic Enigma had an awesome 2009. He won the World Championship 2 times. He main evented 5 of 12 pay per views. Hardy had feud of the year with his rival, CM Punk. He competed in a TLC match and a Ladder Match both for the World Championship. Jeff Hardy's WWE 2009 ended when CM Punk beat him in a steel cage match on Smackdown.
5. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho truly is the best at what he does. Jericho's 2009 was spectacular. He raised prestige to both the Unified Tag Championships and the Intercontinental Championship. Jericho won a slammy award for Tag Team of the Year with Big Show. He constantly appeared on both shows, Smackdown and Raw and also won at Bragging Rights for team Smackdown.
4. John Cena
John Cena had an magnificent 2009. He won the World Championship from Edge on the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania! John Cena won the WWE Championship from Randy Orton whom he had a great feud with. Cena also won a slammy award for superstar of the year after beating Randy Orton.
3. CM Punk
There is only one word I have to describe CM Punk: Awesome! Everything about CM Punk was awesome this year. His heel turn was one of the best heel turns I have ever seen in the WWE. He won money in the bank for the second time in a row. He won the World Championship two times. Even though his push has been deemed lately his "save the wwe universe one person at a time" idea itself is worth watching Smackdown. CM Punk was definitely the reason why Smackdown became the number one show.
2. Triple H
Triple H also had a impressive 2009. Triple H lasted until the final two for the Royal Rumble. He won the Smackdown Elimination Chamber to win his 13th World Championship. Triple H successfully defended his WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 25, which was the first Wrestlemania that Triple H won since Wrestlemania 19. Triple H reformed D-Generation X to feud with The Legacy (Dibiase and Rhodes). Triple H also won the Unified Tag Championships from Jeri-Show with Shawn Michaels.
1. Randy Orton
2009 was all about one man, Randy Orton! Randy won his first ever Royal Rumble in 2009. He had not 1, not 2, but 3 WWE Championship reigns! He almost was in every single WWE Championship match at a Pay-Per-View after Wrestlemania 25. He made stars out of Legacy, and Kofi Kingston. Randy Orton successfully defended his WWE Championship on numerous occasions. Randy Orton is Superstar of the Year For me and he certainly deserves to be.
