Lane Kiffin Making the Move Back to USC
The college coaching changes seem to get more and more interesting by the minute.
Right now, various reports are announcing that Lane Kiffin is headed back to become the head coach at the University of Southern California.
It is reported that his father, Monte, will be making the move with him and running the defense of the Trojans.
For a coach that was a coordinator under Pete Carroll this move isn't shocking, but from all the talk and attention Kiffin created at Tennessee it is a surprise.
Kiffin had a mediocre season with the Volunteers, and it ended in a bowl defeat at the hands of Frank Beamer's Virginia Tech Hokies.
What's to say Kiffin is going to return to USC and be successful?
He started his campaign at Tennessee with calling out Florida's accomplished and outstanding head coach Urban Meyer on false recruiting violations.
Who knows what he has up his sleeves for an encore?
The fact of the matter is Kiffin wasn't winning the SEC.
Going up against the fierce competition of Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Auburn it would takeĀ a lot to break that barrier.
With questions surrounding USC, what makes this such a great move?
Pete Carroll is the one who established dominance out West, but at such a vital time in recruiting, Kiffin is not only damaging Tennessee, but he still has to repair the connection broken by Carroll.
If the NCAA finds evidence to place sanctions against USC, this could go down as one of the worst coaching moves in the history of sports.
The possibility of not being able to compete in bowl games, and losing scholarship players would be detrimental to the Trojans programs.
I'm not saying that is going to happen, but there is always a chance.
As it proved to be the case this year, the Pac-10 has gotten considerably better in it's competition.
Oregon, Stanford, Oregon State, and Arizona have continued to make strides in recruiting and competing for titles out West.
There is a tough task awaiting Lane Kiffin at the University of Southern California, and we have seen how his last two stops went.
The Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Volunteers.
He is only going to continue to receive more and more attention from the media and analysts.
Exactly what he needs.
Now let's see if he can deliver and put his mouth to work.
